I don't feel lonely at all. Nowadays there are so many different eating

patterns (vegetarianism, veganism, organic eating, special diets due to

allergies, diabetes, religious reasons) that CRONIES fit right in. These

days there are even special markets (such as Whole Foods) for healthier

eating and special sections in the regular supermarket for those who are

health-conscious.

When in a group or social situation I do relax my eating habits. But even

if I didn't, there is always something on the menu that is CR-friendly.

Of course if one is bone thin to begin with, and then loses 10 or 15 pounds,

people are bound to be concerned and wonder if you are ill. So it all

depends on one's individual situation. In my case, I do not get critiques

or concern from people; but then I'm not that skinny.

Speak for yourself dude... if most people I know lost 10-15 pounds nobody would

notice :-).

CR only isolates you from others if you choose to cause it to.

I don't proselytize but do give nutrition or dietary advice when asked, which

doesn't happen

very often but does happen occasionally. I find people are only remotely

receptive when " they "

ask, despite how " you " think they should act.

Hi I am a newbie but to CR but a long time health nut or neurotic as

the case maybe. I think this CR is great and am surprised by my lack

of

hunger and health benefits so far. However I find the technical

emphasis kind of boring and repetitive, very scientific which most

people aren't, so it's unlikely to become a big health movement. Also

I

find it kind of lonely CR since in most situations family and work

whatever, if you lose 10 or 15 pounds people will be very disturbed

if

you explain how or why so I don't, that sets you apart. So far it's

been great for me I feel good, but there must be a lot of people

trying

this who are lonely or have psychological difficulties in adapting

to

a behaviour which is not normally rewarding in natural human

behaviour.

The funny thing is for me this eating behaviour is superior to

natural

human eating behaviour, but it does set one apart and that is not

necessarily healthy in a psychological or social sense.

Hi :

Health nut? Here is an interesting question. Is there anyone here

actively practising CRON who was not already quite serious about

their health before coming to CRON? It seems to me that perhaps you

have to have a serious interest is health for quite some time before

you could be persuaded to start CRON. I certainly was

considered " out of the mainstream " as regards health for about thirty

years before I came to find out about, and consider, CRON.

Most people aren't scientific? That is a reflection on the school

system IMO. The data tends to be a bit repetitive because there

isn't a huge amount of research in the area yet - especially among

humans. But what may be more significant is that you are here

because you are open to the evidence. The evidence is not all in

yet, but you are able to assess what there is and draw what seems to

us here to be sensible conclusions from it. That may be

psychologically different from the majority. But hopefully not a

handicap ............ at least not yet - the movement to bring down

attainment among the more alert students so that the less alert will

not have their self esteem hurt, notwithstanding.

Not likely to become a big health movement? Good. Suits me. By the

time CRON becomes popular we will all be off elsewhere on the next

wave, or perhaps two waves ahead - whatever that turns out to be.

Still doing CRON probably, but adding de Grey kind of stuff perhaps.

People get concerned about your weight loss? Yes. Some do. I just

tell them that much of the latest research suggests that the ideal

body weight may be quite a bit lower than anyone had previously

thought, so I am dropping my weight to closer to where I think it

ought to be. Then I shut up and only say more if specifically

questioned (or provoked!)

Lonely? Not really. Apart from anything else I only stick fairly

rigidly to a CRON-type diet five days a week. On the other two days

I don't go out of my way to eat non-CRON, but do not worry about it

if I am served something delicious and unhealthy. I eat it, enjoy it

and do not worry about it. It is weekly/monthly averages that

matter. Indeed, every few months I go out and eat all-you-can-eat

chinese, first because I enjoy it, and second to make sure I have no

signs of anorexia. I enjoy the comments about: " how can he eat so

much and stay do slim? " . But I do mostly stick to the healthiest

stuff when out.

Besides, " the mainstream " , I find, is so often out to lunch.

Hi Lorri:

As you can see in the database section of this site (click on left

side of screen) I started CRON a little over a year ago. I started

from what I had, over the years, thought to be my ideal weight (my

age 22 endurance-fit weight) of 173 pounds, and BMI of 24.5.

I have lost slowly and am now around 160 pounds and BMI ~22.5.

Further losses are on hold for a while since some issues arose,

discussed at length here, that I am still trying to satisfy myself

about.

My plan has been to drop to 150 pounds by the end of this year and a

BF% of 10% eventually - perhaps 145 pounds, but do not really know.

I find I always feel the same no matter how much I weigh. So for me

that is not a useful criterion for appropriate weight.
