Guest guest
What is CAL 101? http://mutated-unmuated.blogspot.com/2010/04/what-is-cal-101.html (Also active and being evaluated in NHL.) A technical piece . but readable if you keep in mind (and then skip the section) about how CAL 101 is thought to interfere with a pathway (with a long name) shortened here to the: PI3K signaling pathway - thought to be vital to the abnormal behavior of the lymphocytes. A pathway in a cancer cell might be thought of as a system in a man-made machine that is not working correctly - such as the fuel system in a car (with a stuck peddle). An effective targeted drug binds to a key component in the system . that might normalize the behavior, leading to cell death, or normal rates of cell division. As noted earlier . that the mechanism of a drug is understood is not evidence that it provides clinical benefit when used. An understanding of the risks and benefits at the active dose can only be acquired by the conduct of clinical trials, which requires our participation. Early results look encouraging, but not assured . See also for links to trials and more information on CAL 101 - that may provide opportunities for you to participate in the research and perhaps benefit early http://www.lymphomation.org/treatment-pipeline.htm#cal-101 Karl PAL at www.lymphomation.org
