What was your former diet?

I find more protein (whey protein with berries, ice, ground flax seed, pysillium, yogurt, kiwi, a little banana, nuts or peanut butter (natural, of course) in the morning

Big salad with lots of leafy greens and tomato vegetable soup plus protein (varies- herring, salmon, tuna, organic free range bison, beef, quail, veggie burger, veggie hot dog, etc.) for lunch

Salad, lots of steamed vegetables, protein (similar to above for lunch) for dinner.

I used to eat almost no protein, but found I usually felt rather empty and listless after lunch with that diet.

Marg: It sounds like you're not eating enough calories and not getting

enough protein.

Before you ate the pizza yesterday, I'm estimating you had eaten roughly

only 800-900 total calories. The only protein you had was some skim milk

and a few peanuts at breakfast, and a very small amt of skim milk and

virtually no chicken (1 TBS) at lunch. There are plenty of healthy and

desirable protein sources (fish, soy, egg white, lean meat, poultry, ff

yogurt, etc) .

Assuming you were eating somewhere around 2000 cal ad lib, you're trying to

do too much too fast.

I suggest you read the files. In our BEGINNING CRON folder, we explain to

not worry about calories when you begin CRON. Just change your diet and cut

out the junk food . Later you can refine your diet - IOW take it slow.

M,

As mentioned, you are probably not getting enough protein.

However, it is not possible to give you any advice without knowing

more about you. It would help to know your age, height, weight,

activity level, and any special dietary contraints, allergies, etc.

From this information it would be possible to estimate your caloric

requirements. It is also important to know your goals. Are you trying

to lose weight? Are you trying to be fit?

If you require 1,800 calories, for example, then you need 135 g of

protein, 60 g of fat, and 180 of carbohydrate for a Zone diet (30% P,

30% F, 40% C). Looking at your sources of protein in your menu: 3/4

cup milk, 10 peanuts, 1 Tbsp chicken, 5 walnuts, it is not surprising

that you feel awful. You are starving yourself to death and then

binging on pizza. One POUND of chicken breast, for example, has 76

grams of protein, 2 g of fat, and 359 calories (NDB No: 07933). This

is only half of the protein that you should be eating. You can also

add whey protein to your glass of milk.

You are not likely to gain weight eating big salads and a lot of

chicken. Limit carbohydrates (pizza crust) because carbs get

metabolized into fat (lipogenesis).

Since you are a Walford fan, use the DWIDP program to track your

nutrients, or use the free web site http://www.nutritiondata.com/

Make sure that you are getting the necessary nutrients. Count your

calories. Eat the right foods. Be happy :-)

Thanks for the help. I've managed to stick with it....though I'm

eating a little more and I've added protein (had to run to the store

for low fat/veggie versions which I prefer). I feel much better!

I guess you could say I'm at the starting line. I'm just trying to

make sure I don't eat anything bad for me, and I'm not worrying about

how much I eat yet (that was good advice!). I wash and set grapes

and carrots on the counter every morning....it's preventing me from

eating the bad stuff and helping me with my sweet tooth.

Slowly climbing the health ladder,

:)
