Guest guest
In our folder under " IMPROVING YOUR CRON PROGRAM " , we have a file called " " Travel kits or food on the run " . Among the foods mentioned is a product called: REBARS, very CRON friendly, which can be bought at the following website: www.rebar-usa.com or by calling their toll free number. Personally I find these bars invaluable especially when travelling. I just stick a few in my pocketbook and off I go. Mr. Kerry Sweeney, who runs the site and the company, recently let me know that they've added two new bars: called Seeds n' Greens and ReBAR Nutrtional Energy. He will give discounts to anyone who calls his toll-free number and mentions the group. His direct toll free line is 877-468-2875 . He also said: " the more boxes ordered, the larger the discount will be, and the best approach would be to order as a group. I have no financial interest in this product; I just happen to like it and highly recommend it. I'll put the above info into the file mentioned above. Guest guest
Jeff: these do look good. However I had trouble finding the cost (one tip-off that they are expensive?). I eventually think I found it at about $28 a box (of 12). That would make them considerably more expensive than the Rebars which are about $18 a box (without the aforementioned discount). on 2/17/2005 12:43 PM, Jeff Novick at jnovick@... wrote: > Not to promote any specific product, and I have no financial interest in > these, but if you are looking for something like the ReBar that is truly > made from nothing but nuts, seeds and dried fruit, check these out. > They are new, from canada, and just coming into the US. > > http://www.perfect10bars.com/NutritionalinfoNatural.htm > > They are sending me some to sample so I can give you my opinion in a > week or so. > > I already evaluated them against my " label " criteria and gave them a > " caution " rating as being a little low in fiber/calorie and high in > calorie density. Guest guest
go for it... as long as you only put in good ingredients the result should be good. Regarding shelf life.. if you put in berries or foods with significant sugar, I suspect spoiling may be an issue. Most commercial preparations probably use preservatives of some sort.. Dehydrated fruits (raisins, etc) will keep somewhat better due to lack of moisture. It's not a big deal for me on road trips of only a few days to throw a cooler in the trunk and pretty much carry a few days worth of normal lunch and dinner meals which I routinely freeze and re-heat in my 1 portion servings. I wonder how hard it would be to make a batch of something similar at home? One could cook up a bunch before a trip or for whenever you'd be away from home. I'm not sure how much money you'd save but you could make them exactly to your own tastes. Anyone have a recipe? I'm thinking mixed nuts, seeds and blueberries bound together in a whole wheat flour and yogurt dough? Never tried this before so I may be missing a real important ingredient. Maybe baking soda or peanut butter? And of course you could pre-cut the bars to have a specific caloric value. Any suggestions from the bakers out there? I found a similar price, $28.50. Keep in mind, however, that they are speaking Canadian dollars (C$28.50). At the current exchange of ~.80 on the dollar, we're talking about $22 US. -
