I'm not sure that we don't have inflated medicine like expectations for our food choices. Once we have covered

our basic nutrition and maintenance needs, it is consumed for energy. While there may be slight marginal

differences in how cleanly different macronutrients are burned this may not be "the" significant factor determining

our check-out time.

If you enjoy rat-chow flavored ice cream sundaes, and have covered you basic needs.... enjoy.

I've always wondered if we should be eating rat chow?

This is hard to "swallow" - pardon the pun. Am I to understand that one caneat ice cream sundaes only (or substitute your favorite forbidden food) ,and it will have no effect on life span?on 5/18/2005 10:11 AM, citpeks at citpeks@... wrote:> Diet composition had no effect on life span

As I recall, (the link in CRsoc is gone now), the lab rat chow was soy, corn, no animal products, no sodium. I could be wrong about the exact mixes and I'm never sure which one they choose for rat testing. Why do we never take notice of the obvious difference in diet components?

BTW, dry dog foods have a lot of corn, taste like a no sodium added, corn breakfast cereal.

Dogs and cats seem to be living longer on tasteless (crap if you will) foods fed ad libitum (so bad they don't want to eat it). Animals we classify as carnivores.

Regards.

I saw no mention of nutrition, just macronutrient ratios. I doubt anyone is

suggesting a diet of 100% ice cream, but maybe on your birthday if you're

good.:-)

I have mused about mac ratios before. I see nothing inconsistent with my

old rants that in the margin it may just not be very important (as long as

you are operating in a slight energy deficit).
