Guest guest
Why leave out soy oil? What about adding a factor for carbos that maybe contribute to 16:0. How would we calculate the effect? Regards. ----- Original Message ----- From: citpeks Sent: Tuesday, February 22, 2005 10:17 AM Subject: [ ] Re: Step Two Diet (was Coconut Diet) From the USDA nutrition database, 50g of walnuts (edible portion)contain 32.6g of fat, but only 19g are LA (C18:2). The olive oil andavocados will not lower cholesterol. The Hegsted equation calculatesthe following effect on cholesterol for these oils at 10% of totalcalories (about 2 tablespoons for a 2000-calorie diet):Grape seed -1195.5Sunflower -1123.2Walnut -720.5Almond -169.5Avocado -9.9Olive +88.6So, replacing almonds with sunflower seeds, and olive oil withgrape seed oil should decrease total cholesterol further withoutaltering the daily calories. Two months should be long enough to seea difference.Tony====From: "rwalkerad1970" <rwalkerad1970@y...>Date: Tue Feb 22, 2005 6:25 amSubject: Re: Step Two Diet (was Coconut Diet)One thing I forgot to mention was she purposely restricted thesaturated fat on the high mono diet plan to 16g a day, now herpolyunsaturated fat from walnuts almond etc would have been around30g so if she was to add say a tablespoon of grapeseed oil each daywould that, based on the Hegsted equation, be expected to givefurther blood cholesterol reduction or has she already received themaximum benefits from Hegsted based on the poly to sat ratio justmentioned? - she has just over two months to the next blood test(these results were already a month old but doctor had gone onholiday so she only got them yesterday), so I think she will bewilling to do a few more poly fats this time round. Her doctor wouldlike the LDL to get to 100 or less.thanks .....===High mono fat Step Two diet (veg, soya, almonds (50g day), walnuts(50g day), fatty fish, olive oil, avacados) 25% protein, 68% fat, 7%carbs) - Winter 20052.4 HDL (95)3.1 LDL (120)total cholesterol 5.8 (225)0.7 trglyceridesHBA1c 6.
