The results may surprise you! Tony ==== This is the cocoa that Trish brought to our attention: Chatfields Cocoa Serving size 30g Tot cal 60 (cal from fat 30) fat 3g (sat fat 2g) carb 16g (fiber 1g) prot 5g -- calculated serving size: 3+16+5 = 24 grams calculated calories 3*9 + (16-1)*4 + 5*4 = 107 cal 78% error in calories on package (underestimate) ================= Lake Champlain unsweetened cocoa (Dutch Cocoa) 10 oz (283g) package - servings per container 10 Serving size 28g Tot cal 60 (cal from fat 30) fat 3g (sat fat 0g) carb 14g (fiber 8g) prot 8g -- calculated serving size: 3+14+8 = 25 g calculated calories 3*9+(14-8)*4+8*4 = 83 cal 38% error in calories on package (underestimate) ================== Ghirardelli unsweetened cocoa 10 oz (283g) package - servings per container ~47 Serving size 1 tablespoon (6g) Tot cal 15 (cal from fat 10) fat 1.5g (sat fat 1g) carb 3g (fiber 2g) prot 1g -- calculated serving size: 1.5+3+1 = 5.5 g calculated calories 1.5*9+(3-2)*4+1*4 = 21.5 cal 43% error in calories on package (underestimate) ================== Droste cocoa 8.8 oz (250g) package - servings per container 50 Serving size 1 tablespoon (5g) Tot cal 15 (cal from fat 9) fat 1g (sat fat 0.5g) carb 2g (fiber 1g) prot <1g -- calculated serving size: 1+2+1 = 4 g calculated calories 1*9+(2-1)*4+1*4 = 17 cal Calories are approximately correct considering rounding errors due to small serving size. ================== Hershey's Dutch process cocoa was correct at 20 cal per 5g serving ================== Scharffenberger cocoa declared 25 calories per 5 gram serving.
