Guest guest
Did you mean inequality or iniquity : ) The iniquity of the American health care system has always appalled me, even more so now that I see the difficulties of my fellow CLL victims in the States. If I were able to, I would have voted for the most radical reform, and I hope the new presidency brings it. best wishes Andy
Guest guest
Hi Andy, Thanks. Our system is that at times, but provides many blessing as well. Mostly, I think our current woes have come to be from a mix of good and questionable intentions, conflicting perspectives, and the push and pull of special interests (including greed). And most recently, the decreasing wealth of our society. It suffers too from gross inefficiencies ... as non-systematic approaches are prone to. A fundamental question being is health care a right or something we earn? Do we leave the bankrupt adult or impoverished child in the ditch , untreated, or less completely treated? Do the darwinistic realize that without a broader consumer market the incentives to develop better drugs and quality health care would also vanish? There's a popular philosophy that the capitalistic system will find answers to every problem, and that all government systems will be corrupt and inefficient because they will not have to compete.. Although these arguments have validity, it seems clear to me that the market system does not work as a health care system (a system with unique ethical requirements). Thus, I think we need a hybrid system that all American pay into and benefit from ... which includes also financial incentives to innovate and improve. We should bare in mind that the US government is " by the people " - thus it has checks against corruption and lack of performance - even if not guarantees in the short term. Thus, in my view, the concern for an increased government role in health care is overstated. Cheers, Karl Re: Coming changes in healthcare in the US? I looked up iniquity when I saw your message Karl, and I got the following - " Definitions of iniquity on the Web: * absence of moral or spiritual values; " the powers of darkness " * evil: morally objectionable behavior * injustice: an unjust act wordnet.princeton.edu/perl/webwn * Iniquity was a Danish death metal group. Established in 1989, the band released three full-length albums before parting ways in 2004. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iniquity * Gross immorality or injustice, wickedness. Often interchangeable with the noun, " sin " (eg, Exod 34:9; Rom 6:19). www.philosophy-religion.org/bible/glossary_new-interpreters-bible.htm " - I didn't look it up when I first wrote it, but I was certainly getting at the first and third definition above. Inequality is almost what I meant, but I like the more forceful " absence of moral or spiritual values " that iniquity implies. Have a great Christmas holiday all Andy > > Did you mean inequality or iniquity : ) > > >
