Guest guest
I am interested in the testosterone issue. As I understand it reduced testosterone in cr is related to marshalling resources for survival rather than reproduction. Is testosterone itself something that ages the organism faster? after all women live longer than men. On the other hand a drop in testosterone can occasion apparent aging known as andropause in the general population, perhaps increasing high blood pressure and diabetes. A cr human male could expect to have lowered testosterone, like the mice or rats in the study cited by Al Pater. I am not sure I understand the study, the testosterone was reduced in the cr animals but then either rose later on in the study or was more effective in some way?Perhaps the sexual organs are reduced in function to begin with but protected and kept younger in the long term? Does Al or anybody have some ideas about this study, or on the whole question of reduction of testosterone, is this a side effect or an important part of slowing aging. If it were just a side effect then there is the question of hormone replacement, which is just beginning big time for males, and has had a long run for females sometimes not producing the health improvements promised, as shown by a recent study.
