Guest guest
Hi All, Gay, the extra tree nuts and flaxseeds are designed to counter the reduced fish fats that are said to readily be oxidized. My WUSTL total cholesterol/HDL ratio was 2.1, which is adequate, I would believe. --- Gay e <@...> wrote: > > May I ask your reasons for increasing the nuts and flax? > 4g of n-3 (2%) > > My concerns are based around the fact that, from my own cholesterol > tests, EFA's seem to lower my HDL along with the rest but Olive Oil > doesn't. Guest guest
I use ground flax meal in one recipe and store mine in the refrigerator. I suspect the seeds may be more stable but I don't know for a fact. In general getting more n-6 is not a problem, most get too much n-6 to balance n-3 consumed. YMMV JR -----Original Message----- From: [mailto: ]On Behalf Of Gay e Sent: Sunday, June 19, 2005 3:13 PM Subject: [ ] Re: Omega 6 Omega 3 Ratio Re: the comments on freshness, would one have to keep seeds in the fridge? I grind mine each day but I must admit I don't refrigerate it - it hadn't occured to me. Not being a fish eater I am hoping for some agreement or discussion about whether the flax will suffice. I do eat cod very occasionally, and king prawns about once a week but that's as close as I get to fish. I guess Omega-6 is easier when you know how, a few walnuts topped mine up today, but I have to say I was surprised how easy it was to be way off beam about what you think you are eating if you don't add it up. Fitday doesn't split Omega-3, Omega-6. I've asked them if they would consider it. Of course, more experienced members might have views that suggest it's not that important. If so I'd like to hear them.
