Guest guest
Those interested in comparing and contrasting IF and CR at the level of gene expression for a group of enzymes involved in cholestrol ester metabolism might find the following article worthy of their time: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?cmd=Retrieve & db=pubmed & dopt=Abstract & list_uids=15888318 & query_hl=1 For those interested in amino acid restriction as a follow-up on the interesting paper from yesterday which examed protein vs carbohydrate restriction in fruit flies, I offer the following paper which investigates the effect of limiting a sulfur-containing amino acid on longevity in various strains of rat: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?cmd=Retrieve & db=pubmed & dopt=Abstract & list_uids=12543260 & query_hl=4 This second paper is interesting in as much as it, like the fly article, questions the assumption that the longevity effects of CR represent a single mechanism preserved across a wide swath of biology. Instead the authors of these two papers offer the alternative explaination that longevity is an example of evolutionary convergence, i.e.animals have evolved more than a single solution to the environmentally imposed problem of needing to address swings in nutrient availability.
