Guest guest
My 80 year old grandfather passed away yesterday from prostrate and bone cancer. Let me give you some facts first and then you can ponder how on earth this man lasted as long as he did? First off - he was around 6'2 " tall and probably weighed no more than 160 pounds his entire adult life. He seemed to get skinner as he aged. He was a WWII veteran with a heavy heart. He began drinking and smoking heavily in his teens and never quit until his cancer came a couple years back. He was a heavy drinker and his food quality never consisted of a healthy variety of nutrients. He was the one who taught me to eat the fat off the steak because it was good for me. As long as I can remember this man drank and smoked heavily for the past 60+ years. He had a heavy heart from the war, which I feel contributed to the years of alcohol abuse. He lived a frugal life, he left this world with nothing. I can still remember him being physically fit and having to work up into his 70's. When I last saw him, his faced looked 100, yet he had fine muscle tone and somewhat of a six pack stomach. Pretty amazing for a man who did nothing but abuse his body. Yet - he remained underweight and never put on the weight through adulthood. What makes me a true believer that living less than your ideal weight will prolong life is my grandfather. Here is another situation to ponder. My best friend in the whole world died at age 43 due to a massive heart attack. She left four small children behind. Her diet consisted of a coke for breakfast, Mcdonalds, Pizza Hut, donuts, trans fats and sugar. I do not recall her ever eating healthy. She was overweight when she died, i.e. 5'4 " and 235 pounds. Her heart simply gave out. Comparing her to my grandfather you can really see the human body can take massive amounts of abuse before it gives out. Clearly the skinny one will still outlast the fat one. Does that mean by being super skinny we actually have a hand up on life? Cleary, an obese person will give out much sooner than an thin person no matter how much abuse is placed on the body. Since discovering CRON, I realize that the numbers on the scale really mean something. I spent years wondering how my grandfather was still alive and that his liver wasn't giving out on him. It must have been his weight. I believe it was the single most important factor in keeping him alive--no matter how much abuse he gave his body. If he was overweight, could one speculate that he would have died in his 40's, 50's or even 60's? Here we are as Cronies. We spend countless days measuring nutrients, vitamins, minerals and calories for that prolonged life. We strive for spiritual sanity, less stress, and happier lives. If you think about it in terms of my grandfather, we have to be doing something right. Just being skinny does make a difference, and we really do have a step up on longevity. No matter what as long as we stay below our ideal weight we are doing something worth while, even if we didn't get all our nutrients in for that particular day, or our sanity takes an unexpected turn. My grandfather made it to 80, that is a miracle. I truly believe I will be seeing you guys in my 100's because all this extra hoopla will be our saving grace. I don't need research or medical doctors to prove CRON works. I feel its truth in my heart and in my soul. When I finishing giving birth at the end of this month, I will be super psyched to get back to my ideal CRON weight. Of course, I will have extra benefit of breastfeeding. I thought this might give you something to ponder. Life in the skinny lane sure does seem funner than life in the fat lane. I guess working CRON will put us in the category with the Okinawans, versus just doing CR, which puts us the category of the regualar Japenese folks. Have a wonderful day - Ann
