Guest guest Posted July 26, 2005 Report Share Posted July 26, 2005 Many years ago, I read that the electrolyte composition of the human body is very close to that of sea water (having evolved from sea creatures). If you lose sodium chloride when you sweat, you are losing sodium and chlorine. Replacing one and not the other will result in electrolyte imbalance. Other sources of sodium, such as sodium bicarbonate, affect the pH of the blood.
