Guest guest
Looks like 20 hour fasts make a lot of the the changes happen that you would want. Lifespan extension? Well, who knows, but these changes that they document indicate there may be significant cardiovascular benefits in humans..... Oone troubling thing is that they did not find PGC-1alpha mRNA expression increases. But, exercise activates this protein, and exercise does not necessarily to an increase maximum lifespan, at least in the experimental systems commonly studied featuring lower organisms. But, there is one thing I am puzzled about. They are reporting significant adiponectin elevations by this interventions. Previous research has suggested that adiponectin is rather recalcitrant to rapid changes in food intake. I guess these guys are "calling that bluff" with this data. There may be something to the "15 days" of "on-off" eating that causes the body to "get with the program". =-=-=-=-=-=--=-=-=-=-=--=-=-==--= J Appl Physiol (July 28, 2005). doi:10.1152/japplphysiol.00683.2005 This Article Full Text (PDF) Alert me when this article is cited Alert me if a correction is posted Services Email this article to a friend Similar articles in this journal Alert me to new issues of the journal Download to citation manager PubMed Articles by Halberg, N.
