Guest guest
Thanks for passing this on, Gene. I'm on the mailing list, just hadn't gotten around to reading it yet, until I noticed you'd thought it worth posting here. Which it was indeed. Very interesting to see that the reports to MedWatch wind up, for all practical purposes, in the dead letter bin, That's still no excuse for doctors brushing off reports of side effects; who can escape those commercials that all end with the admonition to report to your doctor all instances of muscle pain or weakness, as these "may indicate a rare but potentially serious side.effect." So we report. But the doctors are only hearing it from us, not the FDA, and certainly not from Big Pharma. No wonder so few take our complaints seriously. But wouldn't you think the warning from the World Health Organization would make them perk up their ears? I'm so horrified at what has happened to Dr. Graveline. It had seemed that he'd completely recovered from his Lipitor-induced illness, but now he's suffering from an ALS-like degenerative condition. That sends chills down my spine, not only for him but for all of us. While I was on the 80 mg. dosage I became convinced I had ALS, since my doctor refused to believe it was the meds. And my mother had died of it. It wasn't until the thought finally penetrated my statin-induced brain fog that if I had ALS, there was no point in continuing to take expensive drugs for cholesterol, that I did what I should have done many months earlier: I got off it. After the fog lifted, I googled Lipitor, statins, cholesterol, etc., and learned I wasn't the only one to have thought they'd come down with ALS while on the stuff. My mother had died years before, and it got me wondering if statin use might actually cause that disease? But everyone else in the family who lived closer to her than I did assured me that she hadn't been taking anything for cholesterol. But now I'm wondering again. What if no one else knew? I guess there's no point in looking up her doctor after all this time (it's been 12 years since her death), but I think I'll always wonder. I hope everyone has signed Jeff Cable's petition; if the WHO is already taking these problems more seriously than the FDA, more power to them. Let's all show the international court how many of us are out here who have suffered and we want something done! And let's also pass the word along to our relatives, friends and neighbors! That way we'll get more signatures and at the same time remind everyone we know that they too need to beware of the meds their doctors prescribe. Read the full story here: Simcor® The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has recently approved the drug company, Abbott, for the marketing of Simcor, a combination of Niaspan (extended release niacin) and simvastatin for cholesterol lowering. With the statin / niacin pill, Advicor, already on the market, did we really have a need for another one, almost identical? New Natural Product articles and product discounts coming soon. The Ultimate Guide to Natural Products New Space Book I recently wrote a book called "From Laika with Love" about my time in US Air Force intelligence leading up to my selection as one of the first NASA Scientist Astronauts back in 1965. The book is a fascinating insight into the early days of the space race and my personal involvement. For years I was secretly interpreting medical data from animals and Cosmonauts aboard Soviet spacecraft. Telemetry transmissions sent back to the Soviet space headquarters during their flights were intercepted by U.S tracking stations.I was able to see the effects on the first dog in space - Laika - the first human space flight by Yuri Gagarin, and later witnessed the first space walk, all by monitoring the vital signs from these orbiting pioneers. The book will be available in a few weeks on amazon and other online book retailers. Further details will appear soon on ispysapce.com Doc. Guest guest
Newsletter October 4, 2011 Low Cholesterol Impairs Brain Function by Duane Graveline MD, MPH "Brain fog" when on statins has been widely reported and is one of the more common side effects. Do not let your doctor tell you it does not happen. Some researchers say the incidence of statin associated cognitive adverse effect is near 100% if sufficiently sensitive testing methods are used. But it is not only those that take statins to lower their cholesterol that face cognitive impairment issues, people with naturally low levels of cholesterol also demonstrate poorer performance on a variety of cognitive tests. I was even surprised. After all, I was a non smoker, not overweight, in decent physical shape, rarely sick, couldn't remember the last time I needed to take a pill of any kind, prescription or otherwise.
