Guest guest
In any case, this group of French biochemists have figured out what other groups have contended as well, that manipulating the dietary fat does not seem to do as much as you might predict.. They need to work on their English, but, perhaps it is against to law for French intellectuals to communicate in English with any degree of regularity. In any case, there are two major issues I suppose when it comes to "fats". 1) Do humans age in "another dimension" than lower organisms? In other words, is there a bonafide "cardiovascular aging" that can be manipulated by these various types of fat in a manner that is distinct from the aging process as it is studied in lower organisms? 2) Does "anything" really "impede" aging? Or are all interventions characterized to date simply improving survival in the face of a relentless aging process? The reason I emphasize (1) and (2) is because you have to invoke one of them if you are going to contend that different fats can affect "aging" in distinct ways (although invoking (2) more accurately suggests that fats simply improve "survival"). I'm not saying that there is "no effect" from manipulating the fat, but, the evidence suggests that the effect may be small, if it exists, and is apparently dwarfed by "other factors", among which insulinemic signalling looms large. Attempts to extend lifespan measurably in lower organisms through dietary manipulations of fatty acid unsaturation have not met with any remarkable successes to date. However, the epidemiologic evidence begins to suggest that perhaps certain fats are good. But, in light of experimental evidence such as this, I tend to have a "wait and see" attitude. -=-=--==--==-=- Biochimie. 2005 Jul 18; [Epub ahead of print] "Dietary DHA may not oppose the physiologic aging." - PMID: 16046045 http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?cmd=Retrieve & db=pubmed & dopt=Abstract & list_uids=16046045 =-=-=-=-=-=- T. pct35768@... __________________________________________________
