Choose those words that you'd use or expect others to use in order to find out this article in google scholar, or pubmed. Pay attention to what words might be appropriate as themes, or what words may qualify as MeSH terms.

I understand that's the purpose of choosing keywords. Think of keywords as those words that best describe your article. Try writing the article as a twitter update (140 characters). What words stand out?Arin

Hithe book is right. key words are mainly to assist a person to track down an article with more precision. if a word is already there in the title the article would have been captured anyway. however there are times you may not be directed to the particular article u want. so with other relevant key words (not present in the title) there is a possibility to extend (or narrow down) your search.G SivagnanamFrom: soma shekar

HelloI would like to add a point regarding Key words. In many of the manuscripts the authors repeat the words that are already there in the title or in the abstract. This is useless because if those words are already there in the title or abstract your search would retrieve that article.however to make it more broad based, keywords are to be selected that would be synonymous to important words or concept to the already existing ones in the title/abstract.G SivagnanamFrom: kunda gharpure <gharpurekunda@...>netrum Sent: Sat, April 2, 2011 5:13:48 PMSubject: key words

Hello All,

What are "good key words"?

Good key words are the important words or short phrases that specifically describe your topic and closely related topics. They are not long sentences.

How to list key words?

1. First, write one or two sentences about your topic.

2. Next, underline all of the specific words that describe your topic.

3. Make a separate list of these specific words.

4. Add to your list any other words that mean the same thing (synonyms) or are related terms.

5. Think of more words or phrases that describe the larger topic, of which your topic is a part. Add those to the list.
