Hi,

PPT is the extension for file that is created using MS Office - Powerpoint

97-2003. PPTX is the extension for the file created using MS Office - Powerpoint

2008. In the earlier version of MS Office 97-2003, all the application documents

had extensions like - doc, xls, ppt. Now in MS Office 2008, all the application

documents have extension like - docx, xlsx, pptx.

If you have MS Office 2008, while saving a newly created file by default the

file extension is pptx. To change this at the time of saving in the save box

choose the " save type as " - " PowerPoint 97-2003 Presentation (.ppt) " and the

file will be saved as ppt.

To open a PPTX file you will need MS Office - PowerPoint 2008. Alternatively,

there are lot of free softwares available on net which will convert your pptx

file to ppt. In Google search for the following " convert file from pptx to ppt

free " and you will find many free softwares. E.g.:

http://www.convertfiles.com/convert/document/PPTX-to-PPT.html

You can still save your files in the old PPT format if you like. The only catch

is that PowerPoint 97-2003 and earlier may not be able to use some of the

features you might have used in your PowerPoint 2008 file.
