Guest guest
I've lucked out and found a chiro in each place we have lived that could work on TMJ. I also had a dentist adjust my bite once we discovered that a bad dentist who had sealed my teeth in my early teens finished out the last few bottom teeth with composite material instead of sealant. That is what threw my bite off in the first place. He found the sealant worn away but the surface of my right three teeth were still coated with the material. So he ground some of it out and fixed that problem for me. The first chiro did manual adjustments on the joint, with gloved hand, from inside and outside the mouth. They were kindof rough at first but my joint was off by nearly half an inch. It showed up in muscle tests as well as throwing my leg length off by an inch, sometimes more! The next chiro was a very gentle manipulator with a magic touch...and she incorporated "drop-table" as well as activation into my routine. She was the one that got to the remaining physiologic root of my TMJ...found the inherited pinched nerve and the subluxations that were evidence of my body trying to compensate...that strain on the muscle system ran the nerve highway up my neck and right into my jaw! As we have moved around the globe I have found great Chiros- many husband/wife and family teams. Even out on Guam I had a great chiro team. She specialized in head and neck as well as Women & Children's and Prenatal care and he is the one with the magic hands that can get into my T and C spine and find the stuff that is hiding. The little nagging subluxations that come from spending too much time in front of this damn computer! They were also able to Dx my thyroid problems before my other docs...I was suddenly having a lot of movement during the Traction portion of the head treatment. My muscles were working overtime as the goiter and growths were pressing on my nerves, etc. I still go back to them when I am on Guam and as I said, my hubby makes his own appointments and looks forward to his adjustments. We all do. I now have an excellent chiropractor here in Seattle. He uses just about every technique including broad-spectrum activation and an amazing heated water-bed table to warm you up and relax your muscles before he does the adjustments. He checks my leg length and adjusts the jaw with the activator. He gets it every time (in fact, just thinking about it reminds me that I am overdue for a visit!). My neuro symptoms of the last few years improve after adjustments...I got rid of a chronic migraine problem as well. If a particular symptom is troubling me I can go in and he will cater to that problem. I also switched over to sleeping on a Tempurpedic-style mattress topper and with a chiropractic pillow for my neck and that really helps the TMJ. Bruxism (grinding) is not a problem for me, but it is for my 7yr old daughter, and a good adjustment gets her to stop the grinding at night. Good luck with the chiro!
