Advantages of PL: The

advantages of Promotional literature are mostly in favour of the Pharmaceutical

companies rather than for the Medical practitioner or the general public health

in general.

Introduces a new productIncreases prospects for salesFights competitionEducates the target marketEliminates the

middlemen

Disadvantages of PL

May be inadequate, inaccurate,

invalid, unethical, false, misleading, biased and based on studies of poor

qualityLeads to monopoly Creates artificial demandIncreases the price of medicines as

it also includes the cost for marketingMay be harmful for the societyEnhances the self medication of patients
