Guest guest
Hi all, Just got around to checking email and caught the threads about pain, LDN and neuropathic pain. I find that Elavil (Amiltryptaline) is helpful for neuropathic/neuritis type pain. It is an anti-depressant that also improves bladder spasms and insomnia. But I don't seem to need as much of it with the LDN. When I do have a flareup of neuritis (usually a burning pain- feels like a sunburn without the sun-part) I have to resort to opiate meds. That does interact with the LDN and causes me much more than nausea! Usually stomach upset and extra fatigue. So I try to avoid. Whoever noted that Xanax is not an opiate was absolutely right. It is a benzodiazepine and can be used safely with LDN. I am interested in the note that you should discontinue LDN 2-3 days before surgery. I had a private conversation with someone that recommended I disco. the LDN for about 5-10 days prior to my upcoming surgery (for uterine fibroids and blood cysts on an ovary). And then to stay off the LDN until about 10 days after they withdraw me from using pain meds post-op. I'm not thrilled to be going off the LDN for that long but I am also not seeing " miraculous " results like some of you are. BTW, my MS/Myelopathy testing came back normal. The neuro thinks many of my problems, including the neuropathic pain, stems from the combo of the leftover antibodies to my thyroid, recovering from the endocrine imbalance and some other autoimmune conditions... So i have a loose Dx of Fibromyalgia, Peripheral Neuropathy secondary to pernicious B12 anemia and most likely a disease called Behcet's. It may take me longer to see major improvements from the LDN? Or it may be that I still have deeper issues...who knows? I will say that I do have days where my energy level is much better- I missed the last two colds that went around the neighborhood- and some of my chronic pain is better. Have not checked my HepC viral load yet- am hoping that is improved. And I continue to take my Hypericin (the antiviral portion) religously for my liver's sake. I'll let you all know if my viral count has dropped! Hope all are safe and well (especially you folk in florida!) and enjoyed the long weekend. Best all around, Lara
