Great instructions on how to install and use Zotero. However, Zotero also has a standalone version, try here:http://www.zotero.org/support/standaloneThe standalone zotero does not need to have Mozilla Firefox installed in your computer. But being an alpha stage software it is still very klunky. 

For more robust usage, try Mendeley.Arin Basu

Few steps to install this software

 

1.       Install Mozilla Firefox as your internet browser (download free from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/personal.html )

2.       Open Mozilla fire fox

3.      Go to the www.zotero.org download latest version 2.02

4.      Before installation a yellow line will appere you need to say allow , once installed restart mozilla

5.      Go to the www.zotero.org again and install Download word processor plugin

6.      Repet step 4 and complete the installation

7.      You will find the Zotero in the right botom click to explore

 To try :

Now open any site from where you want to pickup any citation say pub med

Open any search

You will find a folder icon on the adddress bar on top

Click it

A window will pop up showing all the articals shown in your search results

Click on two three articals

 

And ok

 

You will find the list in your zotero library

 

Now open MS word

 

In office 2007 click add ins you will find the zotero tool bar

In office 2003 click on view > toolbars> zotero  to get the zotero tool bar

 

Have some text ready as your article

 

Now wish to inseart a reference form the library you have created in zotero click first button of the toolbar

 

Set the style you want  for example vancover 

 

Now from the next window select the reference ok

 

Now keep on doing

 

Go to the end of the document to insart the bibliography

Click on the third button

 

Your bibliography is ready

Thats great that we have sooo many softwares available for managing our

references. I further wanted to go into the details of this and wanted to know

which is the best. I AM NOW CONFUSED . AFTER VISITING THE SITE MENTIONED BELOW.

Dear All,

JabRef is an open source and free bibliography reference manager which I

have used and quite useful and work equally well on Windows, Linux and

Mac OS X.

It can stand at par with Reference manager which most of us cant afford,

Dear Arin Basu

Its indeed great pleasure and honor to have you here on netrum, clarifying

everyone's doubts and adding on to the information.

So that's what I have understood

- Working with plain text such as latex ------- one needs nothing more than

bibtex

- Those who work with thousands of articles at once for example ------systematic

reviews and meta analyses require complex softwares such as endnote or refman,

problem with these is that, these software are only available for windows/Mac

platform, so, those who use linux cannot use them..

- In between, these 2 we have less powerful but extremely useful software such

as Mendeley, Zotero, and Wizfolio. Which has web based online component of

storing and retrieving citations, and an offline desktop version of the software

The advantage of these software is their compatibility with other platforms

(windows, Linux, Mac), and they are available free of cost.

once again thank you so much for your valable inputs that will add to the
