Guest guest
, This is what is commonly called " bandster hell " it's the time after surgery and before it's safe to get a fill. You most likely have little to no restriction, the restriction comes with your fills. Most people need anywhere from 3 to 6 and even more fills to get to a good restriction level. Your not really healed (your stitches set in place) for 6 to 8 weeks after surgery. That's what the post-diet period is for. Some of the things you can do to help this period out: 1. Make sure your getting at least 64oz of non-calorie fluids in everyday. It's even better if you can get 80oz. 2. Assure you are getting the required protein in. There is a liquid protein called Isopure that people swear by. You put it in your crystal lite. The protein will help curve hunger and help keep you full longer until you are back on regular foods. 3. If you need to drink a low cal. high protein shake every two hours, while your in the healing phase the goal is to practice good band rules and to heal. You don't have to monitor and try to control what your intake is right now. You just need to be healing and making sure your sutures are setting in place without problems. 4. Give yourself a break!! This is a new process and with anything new it takes practice and practice and patients!! YOU CAN DO THIS!! Positive self talk is soooooo very important, keep a positive outlook and continually tell yourself " I can do this, I can do this, this will work!! " It is working for me and I was a junk food junky. Trust me I had NO self control and I've now lost 96 lbs. 5. There are some great motivational CD's that have helped me greatly. They are made specifically for bandsters and are great with helping with head hunger and helping you figure out why you are doing what your doing. Guided Imagery. You can check them out on www.BandsterMe.com 6. Find a support group and attend the meetings. There is power in numbers and it's great to find others that are in or where in the same boat your in now. Plus you can get lots of great ideas. Hope this helps some and answered some of your questions. Also remember your surgeon should be a great source of help and support for you. Good luck and keep in touch, Jill Jill S. 358/262/160?? 12-09-06,Dr.Kuri Your only as good as you think you can be! This too will pass! Guest guest
Welcome to Bandlandia. You had your band surgery the same day I had plastic surgery. Ok, you haven't had a perfect start. Nobody has. Starting here you do need to start acknowledging any NSV's-non scale victories like I ate a healthy breakfast in bandster portion today...I drank my water today...I walked to the corner and back. Start giving yourself affirmations and feel them add up and your enthusiasm for this new life and the pounds lost will add up. The old failed at dieting life is over. You now have a tool that will help you if you work it. I believe in you. We are here to encourage you on. Use this group, Smartbandsters, or a local group to check in with somebody to encourage you day to day and to be available for questions. Don't give up while basically still in starting gate. Guest guest
I had my surgery on Dec. 7th I was unprepared for how bad I would feel mentally after the surgery. I knew that I would have to learn new ways of thinking and eating but all those beat-myself-up feelings hit me harder than ever just after the surgery. The good news is that this goes away. I started feeling better mentally right around the time I was ending that 2 week liquid phase. Now I have my first fill and I'm learning how to work with my band. I've had a challenge already but I'm learning and I'm no longer down in the dumps. Hang in there. This first month is the worst. -Mia > > My name is , I had my surgery 12/27/07.
