Guest guest
I am new to the Lap Band. I had it installed 5 weeks ago. Last week was my 1st adjustment. I am currently doing fine as far as the weight loss but I tend to fall into old dieting habits. That is that I find a dailey diet that works and eat the same thing dailey until I get tired of it. My option are limited so instead of finding other meals that work, I tend to go back to a high calorie diet (the only one I know, that's why I am fat). I would like to find out some good food ideas that work with the lapband to expand my variety. Please help with any food suggestions. Sincerely,
Guest guest
, I have had the same problem and the solution is to eat whatever you want just limit your portions. At home, soup is good, tuna salad with mayonnaise or salad dressing, or egg salad with mayonnaise in a bowl, not on bread! Anything like that works well. Amazon has a couple of recipe books that are specifically for Bandsters, and the stuff in them is pretty much all good. I say " pretty much " because there are bound to be things in them that you might not care for. If you eat out a lot, and it sounds as if you do, share your meal with the person who is with you. When I eat out, I always take my wife along, we order something we both like, and a second plate. She divides the meal giving roughly 1/3 or even less dep[ending on where we are and that is what I eat. Eating slowly is the key, if you take very small bites and our down the fork after each bite, you will not finish too quickly and spend some time watching the other person eat what your mind tell you you would really like to have. This even works with fast food if you take it home. If you are on your own, ask for a " doggie box " when you order and tell the server to bring it right away. When your food comes, divide it into thirds and put 2/3 into the " doggie box " and take it home. If you do not like leftovers, give it to a homeless person, or a friend... Fast food usually involves bread in some form and it is usually white bread. Avoid this with a passion unless you want it to come back up. At a Mexican place, ask for corn tortillas instead of flour tortillas. At Mcs, both the buns and the french fries can " back fire " . Pizza is out, unless you can find a place that makes the pizza with real multigrain crust, then order a medium, and eat 1/4 and take the rest home. At Subway and Quizno's, all of the bread is made with white flour regardless of what they say, and it all has the potential to backfire, but if you go there anyway, get a small, not a large.Your mind will say, " buffet bar " , ignore it and order a bowl of soup. We even take our own crackers with us. CostCo and others sell a new veggie cracker that is made by the Wheat Thins company, it is baked, not fried, it crumbles away to nothing when you eat it and best of all, they taste good. I know this sounds like I am preaching to the choir, and I know it is not easy, if it was we would not be over weight. If you give it time, your body and not your mind will tell you what you need and what it will accept, so listen to it. Best to you, Chuck Howerton <- banded April 16 -36 pounds today. Guest guest
Unfortunately, the band doesn't make us choose the right foods, it only helps us be satisfied with a small amount of food - whatever it is. I've been banded over a year, and struggle every day with this - my advice is to really focus on protein at each meal. It fills you up and keeps you satisfied longer. Tuna salad is great for me. You can find a list of high protien foods at: http://www.teamflex.com/nutrition/high_protein_foods.asp Good luck! > > >I am new to the Lap Band. I had it installed 5 weeks ago. Guest guest
Hi there! Food is always a challenge. Something that I've found that really helps me keep track of things is DailyPlate.com You can look up almost any food and get a breakdown of carbs, protein, fibre etc. . .and it will keep a log for you of what you eat.
