Guest guest
Dear members, Disadvantages of FDC's 1. FDCs are (possibly) more expensive than separate tablets. The patient may not actually need all the drugs present in the combination. 2. Confusion of therapeutic aims and false sense of superiority of two drugs over one is fostered specially in case of antimicrobials. 3. Contraindication to one component contraindicates the whole preparation. 4. Dosing is inflexible and cannot be regulated to patient's needs (each patient has unique characteristics such as weight, age, pharmacogenetics, co-morbidity, that may alter drug metabolism and effect). 5. Incompatible pharmacokinetics is irrational because of different elimination ½ lives of individual components 6. Reaction of one of the component cannot be easily ascribed to a particular drug causing it.
