Guest guest
Hi, To be useful in clinical trials, QOL measures must meet basic criteria related to psychometric properties (reliability, validity, and sensitivity), length and acceptability to patients, and availability of parallel child and proxy versions. Keep QOL Measures Simple: ü Length of QOL measures: § Less than 25 items: produces complete data and few issues § 25-50 items: people start to get tired and missing data begins to appear § 50-100 items: you will lose people and entire forms are left blank § More than 100 items: people get angry ü Use uniform response categories (e.g., Yes/No) ü Design measures that look professional ü Get input from all people who will handle the data before the study opens When measuring QoL one must remember that : Ø There is an inter-relationship between domains Ø The importance of domains varies with the individual Ø QoL means whatever the individual determines it should mean Dr. Smita
Guest guest
The understanding of QOL is recognized as an increasingly important healthcare topic because the relationship between cost and value raises complex problems, often with high emotional attachment because of the potential impact on human life. For instance, healthcare providers must refer to cost-benefit analysis to make economic decisions about access to expensive drugs that may prolong life by short period of time and/or provide a minimal increase in QOL. In the case of chronic and/or terminal illness where no effective cure is available, an emphasis is placed on improving HRQoL through interventions such as symptom management, adaptive technology and palliative care.Dr. Smita From: smita sontakke <smitaavanti@...>Subject: Keep QOl measures simple"netrum group" <netrum >Date: Thursday, 10 February, 2011, 9:28 AM Hi, To be useful in clinical trials, QOL measures must meet basic criteria related to psychometric properties (reliability, validity, and sensitivity), length and acceptability to patients, and availability of parallel child and proxy versions.
