Guest guest
Bringing up the topic of off-topic items is clearly unpopular with some folks on this board. I joined this board in late February and began taking LDN in March for MS. I have posted my story several times. I am grateful for the information and help I received from those here. Unfortunately, some of those that were posting regularly no longer post. My sense is that some find the lack of focus on LDN discouraging. I have to believe that most of the 1200 people that have joined this site joined it because of the stated purpose on the Homepage. It reads: " The Low Dose Naltrexone (LDN) group is an announcement and discussion group for those interested in LDN, and who wish to be notified about updates to the Low Dose Naltrexone website (www.low dose naltrexone.org). " I monitor several other boards and have noticed that many of the off- topic posts are duplicated in other places. No doubt many of those posts are interesting and helpful! Post 852 (copied below) makes some excellent points about places to discuss topics of more general interest. " From: " LarryGC " <larrygc@s...> Date: Wed Sep 15, 2004 7:49 pm Subject: Re: [low dose naltrexone] Re: chlorella(TOM BAYUK) - off- topic -- how far is too far? There are already other groups that have some of the same members and could be utilized for various other topics. Spotlight_LDN (mostly all LDN takers with MS) MSWatchers (my group, broader topics, I send a lot more than MS & LDN related info there) Both ran by guys named ce (but I prefer Larry, thank you), one in the UK, and me in NY. There's also a lot of other groups, which you can see in the long list of CC's on some crosspostings. There's many MSN groups, there's MGH/Braintalk, MSFacts, MSWorld, MSWatch, the MSRC (UK)'s ezboard, my LDN ezboard, 's LDN board, ThisisMS, and the list goes on and on. I agree, this group should be 99.9% LDN related/based. Hard to control.. we can't even seem to stop the really really OT and SPAM messages. Now that should be first priority. " I am taking the time, and making the effort, to again state the case for focusing discussion on this board on LDN because I believe LDN is far too important, for potentially far too many people, not to make it the priority. The nature of posting boards like this is such that those that actively post tend to dictate the content. It is not up to me, or any other individual other than a moderator to direct the topics discussed here. I am sure we all prefer an uncensored environment, but with that freedom should come some responsibility. I do believe this site can and should be a valuable LDN resource. I also believe that was the original intent for the site, and at the very least, is why I joined. I have joined many other groups to learn about, and discuss, lots of other MS and health related topics. My position is not in any way personal. Unfortunately, some seem to be taking it as such. I believe our " group " intent for this site should be to make it as simple as possible for people to learn about, and ask questions about, LDN related issues, in addition to posts of " progress " reports and other LDN results. I am hoping that those reading this will take the points presented in the spirit in which they are presented. This is the last you will hear about this subject from me. Clearly, we each need to decide how we feel, and act accordingly. Best regards, Alan
Guest guest
This board might become much better, if many of the FAQ's could be posted as files or links for ready perusal. I suspect there is a certain fatigue developing in answering the same questions again and again. Discussing the same topics repeatedly makes us go around in circles. New topics can only be explored, if we dont waste time rehashing what has been said umpteen times. Perhaps the moderator might look into this. Guest guest
Only the owner/moderator can add files and links in this group, I just looked. Perhaps needs some moderators to help with the spam, files, and links. I'm sure this group is a lot larger than he ever expected it will be. ----- Original Message ----- From: yashagrawal low dose naltrexone Sent: Friday, September 17, 2004 12:10 Subject: [low dose naltrexone] Re: This Board -- stating the case to focus LDN for the last time This board might become much better, if many of the FAQ's could be posted as files or links for ready perusal. The past few weeks I have totally lost all interest in this forum because of the spamming and off topic posts. I dropped in over at Spotlight LDN where they are as of this moment still talking about LDN. I hope this forum can find again the topic of LDN. If not I won't be around much longer. Guest guest
Alan, Larry, and Yash, they are great ideas. I totally agree with ye. It's very frustrating seeing people post the exact same posts in all the forums...be so much better if this forum just stuck to LDN. I go to MS Friends and MSRC for all general topics to do with MS. Then I go to the MS Diet GRoup to meet my Best Bet Diet budies and to share advice information, then I'm a member of MS Cured which is kinda a mix on alternative therapies. I'm also a member of MS Watch another general topic place on MS and LDN Spotlight which is for LDN but generally not as good as here. There are so many forums out there so as you lot say it would be great that this forum could jsut stick to LDN. Maybe then those newbies coming in or those of us oldtimers like myself who dont' get online mcuh may be able to find LDN information easier and this group could function better. I know I would post alot more if the group functioned as it's supposed to but it's very hard for me the way it works at moment.
