spammers and banning

Hi gang,

I've noticed a lot of spamming activity on the forums again

lately. I moderate another health group and we have been hit several

times in the last few weeks. These buttheads sign on, join, drop

their load of crap, sales pitch, or annoying religious chatter...and

then unsubscribe in the blink of an eye.

I don't see a posted list of members that would help us identify the

owner and/or moderator of this message board. But my advice for now

would be to restrict all new members to a moderated status until they

have posted several messages. It would require the site moderator to

do a bit of extra work, checking the validity of the members before

allowing their messages to post, but it would save the rest of us

from having to read the crap that slips by. And make the digests alot

less cumbersome!

This strategy has worked very well over on a thyroid forum I

moderate. Can anyone identify the site owner here? Or a moderator?

Hallooooo?

To those wishing to leave the LDN forum, please(!!) log in to this

address, low dose naltrexone/, and click

the " edit my membership " link or the " exit this group " link. Posting

a message with " unsubscribe " in the subject field will not work- it

just posts it here for all of us to see.

And to those members that have been accidentally banned, I would

agree that it probably has something to do with letting your

email box get full. Remember that you do not have to have a

address to join any forum. You can use any email address you

choose. Get rid of the address and edit your membership to

include the new email addy and that should clear up the problem. But

keep in mind that has been re-vamping their system lately...and

that's caused some snags for postings, too.

One last thing, I noticed a couple of ruffled feathers last week

about the quantity of off-topic posts on this forum. If you are

concerned about your physicians seeing it and not considering LDN to

be a valid treatment option because of it then I would remind you

that this is not the site to send a doc to! Sam's (Redtruck99) survey

site or www.low dose naltrexone.org would be a much more doctor-

friendly option. This LDN forum is a chat group for regular folks who

are taking, trying to take, curious about taking LDN and living with

MS or some other condition that warrants us wanting to try LDN. This

is not a medically-oriented site and I did not/would not send my own

doctor here when she wanted information about LDN. I sent her to the

home page, www.low dose naltrexone.org, and she was able to scan that

site, recognize that it contained some valid medical info (even

without any major clinical trials), and that gave her the confidence

needed to prescribe for me. Okay, end of rant! ;-)

Best all around,

Lara
