Guest guest
WHAT IS QUALITY OF LIFE? The term 'quality of life' was originally coined in the USA in the post-war period to describe the effect of material affluence (evidenced by the possession of cars, houses and other consumer goods) on people's lives and was subsequently broadened to encompass education, health and welfare, economic and industrial growth. In the sociomedical literature, QoL has been equated with a variety of terms, including life satisfaction , selfesteem, well-being, happiness , health , the value and meaning of life , functional status and adjustment . QoL should not be confused with the concept of standard of living, which is based primarily on income. It is a phrase used to refer to an individual’s total wellbeing. This includes all emotional, social, and physical aspects of the individual’s life. However, when the phrase is used in reference to medicine and healthcare, it refers to how the individual’s wellbeing may be impacted over time by a disease, a disability, or by drugs.
