Self medication & OTC medication

Dear dr. Dear friends,

What is the legal status of self medication in different countries in the world

? How many countries in the world have their OTC list ? Is there any state

legally permitting OTC drug use and promote self medication ?

Dear All,

Sri Lanka has such a list.

Category 1 drugs are those that can be purchased from any where, you don't need

a pharmacist to dispense. Category 11 A are those that do not need a

prescription but need a qualified and registered pharmacist to dispense the

drugs. Both these are considered OTC.

The list undergoes periodic revisions depending on the issues that are there at

the time - we are currently doing one revision and will send a copy once it is

finalised.

All others need prescription and will be category 11B or III.
