Guest guest
I don't know if this was already answered, but last year at the iodine conference the doctors warned against supplementing with iodine during pregnancy. Dr. Abraham said that bromine crosses the placenta more readily than iodine so any detoxing could be harmful to the baby. sent an email on this a few days ago, so you might want to search for it. This was before you sent out the information about doing a bromide test before deciding to supplement. My question is, since she has already done some small supplementation, is it even possible for her to go off again, wait a period of time, do the bromide test and THEN decide again whether or not to supplement?? Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated. -- Rott, CNHP Oklahoma
Guest guest
Thank you for your response very much!I did look over carefully and your notes from the conference before I asked this specific question. So, that is why I asked, before knowing the information in the notes from the conference, if she had just begun to take it and quit now, would a test be accurate or should she just forget it until after delivery. Thanks so much! Guest guest
I'm pretty sure Dr. Flechas recommends taking iodine during pregnancy since the baby needs iodine.Ann MarieOn Fri, Oct 10, 2008 at 8:43 AM, Rott <catherinerott@...> wrote: Thank you for your response very much!I did look over carefully and your notes from the conference before I asked this specific question. Guest guest
Boy that is tough. For the loading test they tell you to stop taking iodine for 48 hours and then test but in the case of looking for bromide I would think that knowing what is circulating while taking it would be a good thing so I would probably - personally - do it while supplementing. That would give you true risk factors. If she is going to take it as Dr Abraham says she needs to do the supporting nutrients as well. But if she is toxic she needs to detox while pregnant and that is where our info gets fuzzy. Guest guest
He does but ....... there is still the issue of Bromide which he was part of the discussion at the conference and all the docs agreed that this is a big issue. Iodine is needed in pregnancy but how much is safe was the question. Guest guest
Yeah Dr. Flechas does. And while it is true that the baby need iodine, since bromine crosses the placenta more readily than iodine (not to mention what fluoride and mercury might do) Dr. Abraham said you could be doing more harm than good. Dr. Flechas was there when those remarks were made and as I recall he made no comment. So I don't know if he has since that time revised his recommendation. Guest guest
I agree with this Irene. Only Dr. B, Dr Shevin and Dr A commented on this.
