Guest guest
I just had a consultation with Dr. Brownstein on my husband. I wanted to update you on something that was great! 1. He does have the MTHFR defect - A1298C form so both of us have this and Dr. B says that our children will have it as well. 2. He started on 37.5 mgs Iodoral in May '07 and when they retested him in Sept his antibodies were down a little. But this time after being on 50 mgs for about 9 mos his antibodies are undetectable!!! Yeah!!! The only thing we did was add selenium and increase iodine. Dr. B is starting him in DMG and MSM to help with the MTHFR defect and says that these two things should increase hormone levels (thyroid) as they are bit low yet and will help bring down his cholesterol. Also his glucose level went from 106 to 91 which is awesome! So that is my news. Iodine and a good report for a hashi's patient.
Guest guest
Hi : Is there a reason your husband does not take any thyroid medicine? Was he ever on any? Guest guest
He has never been on any and he does not want to be on it. He is feeling OK so the Dr is letting him stay off of them. Guest guest
Wow, that's awesome. Thanks for posting this (both of you.) That's very inspiring for us Hashi's folks! Especially those of us who cannot tolerate thyroid meds. Cheers! Guest guest
, I also have heterogygous MTHFR. What does this have to do with thyroid dysfunction? Is it related or a risk factor? I knew it was a risk factor for heart disease and stroke and clotting, but didn't know it had anything to do with thyroid. I had the test at least 8-10 yrs. ago when the test was very new and no one really knew much about what it really meant. I was told to take B-12, B6 and folic acid to keep my homocysteine levels low. I'd appreciate any info you have on how it related to thyroid. PhyllisNew MapQuest Local shows what's happening at your destination. Dining, Movies, Events, News more. Try it out! Guest guest
We don't have a direct connection to thyroid. It just seems that people with chronic conditions have this defect.
