flu shots and colds in general

Hi all,

I noticed a couple of blurbs about colds and flu. Here is my take on the

issue:

Two years ago (just before I was dx'd with my auto immune disease) my DH and

I opted to get

flu shots for the first time ever. While neither of us had the flu that

year, we did seem to have more colds

and other viruses (including stomach flu) that year than ever before. Plus I

had all sorts of chronic infections in my feet, skin, etc.

This year we are both on LDN, me at 3 mgs with Hypericin for my HepC and

other autoimmune issues,

and my DH at 3 mgs as well, to see if it can lower his cholesterol without

statin drugs (he has inherited his paternal family's tendency to have

dangerously high cholesterol) and to help with his immunity in general. He

travels a lot as a pilot and is exposed to every germ in the giant germ pool

on the globe!

We were both exposed to a bad cold in the last 21 days. I was exposed to a

bug my mom brought here from TX.

He was exposed to a bug that he picked up on Guam on the other side of the

dateline. So far (knock wood and three cheers for the LDN) we have not

swapped bugs and he got over his cold in record time- just a few days and it

was over. Plus his typical " Guam crud " (allergy to molds in the tropics are

common) has not been a bother.

As for me, I just got a tiny cold sore- had a sore throat for a few days-

got some extra rest- and it seems that my cold has gone away without ever

really turning into much of a cold.

I think it is safe to credit the LDN with the added immune support. I don't

expect to remain permanently cold-free. The occassional virus is the body's

natural way of " cleaning house " , but the severity and length have nothing to

do with helping you build immunity to that particular virus. Catching it

does. I really do think the LDN helps us get over viruses faster and has

improved our nasal allergies tremendously. An our overall immunity is

better. Plus, so far, I think it is helping my viral load from the HepC to

come down... I'll keep you all posted! I get the results of my most recent

viral count back any day now.

Best of health to all,

Lara

(Have had some lovely, sunny autumn afternoons in Seattle as we wait to see

what Mt. St. Helen's is gonna do!)

I'm dealing with the first cold I've had in years. I can't say that I'm

distressed by it, nor is it severe. People with " normal " immune systems get

the occasional cold, so I choose to take this one as a sign of a more normal

immune system...
