Grapefruit juice seriously affects the p450 detox system in the liver

impacting its function (slowing it down) dramatically for up to 72

hours. In addition to general detox, any drugs your are taking that are

eliminated by the liver (most are) will become highly elevated in blood

levels over that period of time because it is not being removed.

Consequently, I have decided to not consume grapefruit or grapefruit

juice at all.

I suspect that pomegranate juice would hide the flavor well and there

have been quite a few studies lately on it very significant benefits.

If you choose this route, read the ingredients list well because some

" whole fruit " pomegranate juices are mostly apple juice or other

adulterations.

I just got back from a cruse sponsored by the Life Extension Foundation

and they had some good presentations. One was on interactions and

grapefruit juice was discussed in some detail. While I was aware of

grapefruit juice interfering with drugs metabolized by the liver, the

news to me was that it affected the liver for so long, 72 hours. I had

thought that I could put several hours between drug consumption and

grapefruit juice consumption and be ok. Apparently not. I have a

printed copy of the slides and I can provide some information from them

if you want.

As to a particular problem with absorbing and utilizing iodine when

taken with grapefruit juice, I cannot say one way or the other at this

point.

WHERE do you buy Lugol ,. no health food store I ahve called seems to even know what it is let alone carry it , one did carry a solution they say is iodine but as a different name like sololdine or something ..

If you do a google search you will find many places to buy Lugol's. I

got mine at J Crow's.

Which one do you order , i found it a bit confusing but I ordered 1 @ $19.95

and 2 @ $15.95 . I found it weird that it was a limit of one on the $19,95 .

I like the herbs selection too , I would ahve ordered soem if I had looked

at that before I confirmed the sale . Thanks for the info , Jo

I canceled my order from J crows. I found J Crows 2% at SwansonsHealth

Products for $5.00 cheaper and cheaper shipping as well . They don't offer

the 5% solution but I figure some is better then none maybe just take a

larger dose. I have been apprehensive because of the person who said they

got so sick and haven't recovered yet from taking it , I don't know if that

just a fluke or what .

I ordered the 5% solution which is 19.95 the chepaer one is probably 2

%. The limit on the 5% is the governments doing. Can't let us 'poison'

ourlseves you know!!

Good deal!! I will remember that. maybe I was the one you are thinking

of tho others I believe had problems as well. I used 1 drop of the 5%

for two mornings then crashed. Fatigue like you wouldn't believe and

felt like CRAP! Took all day to get better. Now I am not sure if it was

the Iodine or just me, as I have lyme and I can't tell for 100%

certainly what happened. I hadn't felt that bad in months. It may have

affected my adrenals somehow as they are pretty wimpy. I'll try again

but not for awhile and at half the dose too.
