Guest guest
Do you every have trouble with the titanium giving a streaked/striated look? And sometimes when I color a whole batch with titanium and then separate out a small amount to color and then add back in as a swirl I get a third color around the swirled in part - neither white nor the color being swirl in and not even close - sometimes clear grayish looking. chris > TD is what makes everything a pearly > white.....almost all commercial lotions & creams & soap will have TD in > them... it MUST be mixed BEFORE adding it to the soap so as to disolve > it real good.. Guest guest
Carol, I use TD in CP soap when my olive oil (yellow) would affect the final color of my soap. This is especially true when I make soap a lavender color. The yellow oil would turn the lavender color (from oxide) putrid gray!! So....I add about 1 to 1 1/2 tsp. of TD, shaken in about 1 oz. of water (saved from my water amount) after I add the lye to the oils. This amount is good in a 9 lb. batch of soap.... (about 100 oz. of oil) I find it makes the lavender color more 'opaque looking' but not chalky. I don't find it alters the feel of the soap at all. Hope this helps. I was wondering what experiences people have had with titanium dioxide-in MP or CP/CPOP soap? I think I recall someone saying that they didn't like it for CP soap-made it too " chalky " . Has anyone had this experience? The one batch I used it in does seem to have a different consistency-more crumbly. And for MP soap, I've read that it can be used to turn clear base white, but then I think someone else mentioned not liking that mix. Any thoughts? Guest guest
Carol, thats what they use to make white MP white. Personally I think it does make it more crumbley so I like to cut it with clear MP and it has a better consistency IMO. I have used it in CP once and it was fine, no chalky. But I suppose it would depend on how much you use. Shaye titanium dioxide Hi there! I was wondering what experiences people have had with titanium dioxide-in MP or CP/CPOP soap? Guest guest
Hi Jen, I can't help you on this but I was wondering why you put Titanium Dioxide in your lip balms. What does it do? Thanks, Bree <petworksofme@...> wrote: Hello (yet another question)-I have some Titanium Dioxide (oil disp.). Every time I try adding to my lip balm recipe it does not fully incorporate/dissolve in the oil-butter mix. Is this due to temp. or when I add it? I usu. try adding it when the other ingredients are melted (do I need to add to oils at room temp before heating?). Any help/suggestions are greatly appreciated, -Jen E. Guest guest
Hi-it is supposed to make them creamier, whiter (if you like those types of things). My main reason is that it is supposed to add some sun protection (I read this somewhere), probably because it refracts light (ie. rays?) very well (only diamonds are better at refraction). I think it is most often used in soaps to make them whiter. > Hello (yet another question)-I have some Titanium Dioxide (oil > disp.). Guest guest
>>>> Both zinc oxide and titanium dioxide are used for sun protection.<<< Just remember that one can not " sell a sun protection product to the public " without first getting a licence from the FDA because these products are considered a " drug " and not a cosmetic. One can make these for personal use only. hth Sherry Natural Care E-books & CD's, booklets, spreadsheets www.herbalsoap-healingcreams.com/book.html
Guest guest
What is with the Titanium Dioxide, it seems to be in a lot of supplements lately. I don't even remember it being used five years ago. I sent all of my puritan pride order back because of it and will not order from them any more.
