Guest guest
(I posted a week ago and am posting now with an update.) I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism and Hashi's in May 2007. Initially I was on Synthroid but after a month had become debilitated with weakness and brain fog so went on Armour. Now I have a RT3 problem so am switched over to T3 and am taking 37.5 daily at present. I also am taking iron and vit. B, selenium, a few others. Ferritin levels are under 40 recently. I had saliva cortisol testing in 2007 that showed mild adrenal fatigue but according to my doctor didn't need to be on hydrocortisone. I think that issue is resolved because I no longer have AF symptoms. I think. I've been taking Iodoral for about 3 weeks, started at one tablet and now am up to 4 (50 mg daily). I was having some problems that weren't too severe with feeling warm flushes and slight swelling sensation in my throat area, also runny nose and sores in my mouth around my lips on the inside. I started extra Vitamin C and did the salt flushing protocol one day. As a result of the salt loading/flushing, I have gained about 10 pounds. None of my clothes fit and I am uncomfortably bloated. My ankles and knees are sore when I walk and stairs and step-downs one step from the door to sidewalk are uncomfortable. Is this " normal " ? Will it go away? Does is sound like I'm doing the right thing? I really cannot stand not being able to wear my clothes and am wondering how fast this water weight will go away. It's been 3 days so far. I'm no longer using sea salt in water and drinking it, just using it to lightly season my food. I thought I was adding to the problem if I kept on drinking salt water and am desperate to lose this bloat. I no longer have any of the symptoms that I thought were detox. I never did the iodine test first because my doctor told me to work up to 50 of Iodoral and that's just what I did. Would there be any benefit to doing the test at this point, or should I just continue? Can anyone tell me what to do, if I'm doing anything wrong or have something to add? Guest guest
Don't know what happened to the post - what I wrote didn't seem to add in - sorry about the double post. Maybe add some B6 which is the vitamin responsible for water management in the body. Also the other minerals Potassium and Magnesium can help water balance. The body holds onto water or dehydrates in an effort to maintain the electrolyte balance so the cells can work. Gail. > > (I posted a week ago and am posting now with an update.) Guest guest
I am also sensitive to salt, but am completely convinced of the importance of it for both bromide detox and adrenal health. What I do to avoid salt overdose symptoms is mix 1/4 tsp of good salt (Celtic or the Original Himalayan) in 1 quart of good water (this ratio is more mild than the normal salt loading). I drink about 2 1/2 quarts of this a day and therefore get 1/2-3/4 tsp plus whatever I eat in food per day. So this ought to be sufficient! This has worked tremendously well for me, which is a relief because I didn't think I was going to be able to do the salt loading. If I start to feel ultra thirsty or a headache coming on from too much salt (or bloating as in your case) I take extra potassium and magnesium. It almost always helps! However you will have to rule out other things too that might be causing your bloating. I recently discovered, with the help of people in this group, that gluten can cause bloating and water weight. I'm back to my normal weight ever since eliminating gluten. It feels really good. Also I would definitely do an iodine loading test and a bromide test - this way you will know exactly where you are and what you need to do. It helped me to stick with the iodine through the tough parts and now I am so glad I did!Hope this helps,Marlena>> (I posted a week ago and am posting now with an update.) Guest guest
Thank you Gail and Marlena. I'm already doing a B vitamin supplement, have increased it now so that it's 100 of each one daily. I don't know if that's enough. I am also now taking 400 of Mg and 200 of selenium along with 3000 of C. Gluten is an issue with me, too. I feel better when I totally am off of it. I will start in on the salt again today, using just 1/2 tsp. daily. I am still quite bloated and have now officially gained 10 pounds. I have no idea how to go about doing the bromide test. Is that ordered and done at the same time as the iodine loading?
