Guest guest
Cley.. The consensus around here about iodine; given the onslaught to our bodies from environmental pollution containing mercury, the water supply containing fluoride (ordinary filters like pur do not get rid of) and chlorine; the more iodine you ingest the better. However, in the beginning, it may be necessary to pulse dose -- on days and off days -- with the iodine to manage detox symptoms. Have you tried upping your vitamin C and magnesium? If you are developing gout, eating cherries (sweet, tart, juice, etc) is an old home remedy that really does work. Taking some liver supporting supplements like milk thistle, NAC, etc. might help too. Are you having blood sugar regulation problems? Low blood sugar can also mean your adrenals are affected. For me, it means high cortisol. For me, I went through some detox symptoms that became so uncomfortable that I stopped the iodine all together for about 3 weeks at a time while I was taking C, salt, niacin, riboflavin, magnesium, milk thistle and NAC to flush out the bromide that the iodine had dislodged. Once that was over, I'd start all over again Lorie > > Within the last month or so I started having a trigger thumb during > the night. Guest guest
Thanks for the reply, Lorie, I have been using transdermal mag oil which I started at about the same time as the iodine. I did have high cortisol the last time I had my hormones checked (a couple of years ago)...adrenal fatigue. Another reason I started the iodine had to do with a bit of insomnia...another menopausal symptom. I probably need to up my Vitamin C. I started using ester C again because ascorbic acid makes me too acidic. I also use some Natural Calm (mag citrate) some nights. I do use milk thistle. I don't know about gout...my big toe was getting a slight be sore on occasion and I've tended to eat rather rich foods at times. I don't know about my blood sugar...I've never been diagnosed with any problem with it so I doubt that is it. Lucy
Guest guest
I just looked up the NAC and I haven't taken that before. It may be mercury/heavy metals detox. Detox symptoms can be confusing and upsetting. I don't like feeling worse when I am trying to fix other areas of not feeling my best. I've tried to keep up with the recommended supplements while on Iodine...maybe I need to be more religious about it. My insomnia has been better since using the iodine and the mag oil...same with the hot flashes. Trade offs...maybe after Christmas I will attempt to up the lugol's dose again. I noticed that the source I was going to buy from next stopped selling it...rats. The stupid meth makers/addicts are messing it up for the rest of us. It seems to be affecting the availability of other stuff too like caustic soda/lye used for making homemade soap...I was looking for some of that last week wanting to make some Christmas gifts. I had tried 4 drops for a bit and the detox seemed to get worse. Then I was worried that I would create a thyroid condition where one didn't exist before. I figured a maintenance dose was all that was necessary and safest in the long run. I think I read that too much iodine could give you hypo or hyper thyroid. I wish I had the money to get a Dr. who understands this stuff to help. Are there any in the Tampa Bay area of FL? Lucy
Guest guest
I developed a trigger finger (little finger only, on right hand, at first) that showed up the morning after I painted walls all day with a small brush in my right hand. It has progressed to sometimes all of my fingers (except thumb) on the right hand, but only in the morning. My chiro says that I'm pinching a nerve in my neck while I sleep. I mostly sleep on my right side. Since yours comes up in the evening, could it be your favorite chair? Do you have to hold your head a certain way because of your reading lamp? etc... Guest guest
I get a newsletter from Dr. and he mentioned that vitamin B6, taken three times a day for a total of 150 mg, will cure trigger finger in a couple of weeks. Once cured, do not continue the B6 at a high dose as it will throw off your other B vitamins. Take a balanced vitamin B supplement instead. If you look up " trigger finger B6 " you will find more opinions on the subject. Val > > Within the last month or so I started having a trigger thumb during > the night. Guest guest
Laurel, Initially, I thought it was due to the way I was sleeping. I went to the chiropractor a few weeks ago and the adjustments didn't help with the trigger thumb. I tried sleeping with a splint on my thumb for a couple of nights and it didn't help either. I suppose it could be how I sit on the couch and read my laptop...my neck bent a certain way. I did have an odd backache last month that seemed like it could have been a kidney infection...on both sides. I was wondering if the iodine detox had contributed to that too. The iodine is the main new thing I've introduced in the last six or so months...aside form the Ancient Minerals mag oil. Val, I will look into supplementing with B6 specifically for a few weeks. I take a daily B complex. I thought that would be covered that way.
Guest guest
Interesting, I have been taking Iodine for about 5 months - I'm already hypothyroid on replacement hormone and I'm also doing some mercury detox stuff. About 2 months ago I developed a trigger thumb on the right hand. It would stiffen up over night and be noticabley clunking and painful on moving it in the morning. Some of the other joints on that hand also feel a bit stiff. I assume it is part of the detox process because after getting worse it is now gradually getting better - still a bit of soreness occasionally but no trigger anymore. I did read of someone starting to take Iodine because of joint stiffening in the fingers - and it cleared the stiffness up so I think it is probably important to keep going, making sure you are using all the other recommended nutrients as well. Guest guest
Thank you, Gail, that was encouraging. I wonder why it happens on the right thumb...odd stuff...or if it is particular to the right side. I'll hang in there with the iodine. I have been using peroxide on my toothbrush sometimes too...I suppose that is also causing the release/breakdown of mercury in the couple of mercury fillings I have left. I'll need to switch to colloidal silver again. So, it is probably heavy metal detox. I got some NAC today. B6 is the next supplement to get. I think I have most of the others. I may change to a Standard Process Cataplex C I read about today on Dr. Janet Lang's site.
Guest guest
Or it may be something completely unrelated and you just have to massage your hands with a little DMSO. Guest guest
Hi, Is your's on the right side as well? Are you right handed? I thought it could also be tied into usage because the right thumb is so important with all the technology stuff - the keyboard space, the mouse control, texting etc. My worst finger apart from the thumb is the middle one and I realised that one gets a lot of wear when I use a calculator which I have been doing more of as well. Maybe for a left hander it would be the left side that gets affected. I didn't check out which meridian it's associated to - that might be useful to know as well. And definitely I would recommend getting the fillings changed - somethings that mobilise mercury to detox it don't always remove all of it from the body, so you could just be moving the mercury that's leaching from your fillings deeper into the body tissues. Guest guest
Gail, I am left handed. I use my left hand on the mouse when using the PC but I use my right fingers on the mouse pad on the laptop. , And I could try massaging with some DMSO but wouldn't that be treating the symptom and not the cause? Guest guest
it travels the nerve to the thumb coming out of c1-c3 I believe. linda rn Re: Trigger thumb Thank you, Gail, that was encouraging. In homoeopathy what a substance can cause it can cure - it is a dose dependant and individual response interaction. When you treat using the homoeopathic principle of 'like cures like' there is often an aggravation of symptoms before they are cured.
