Guest guest
There are many pieces to the puzzle of hair loss. Among all those others listed, Saw Palmetto is the main ingredient in many of those expensive hair loss supplements. I have been taking that daily and have noticed an improvement. When I emailed Dr. Derry from Canada this is what he said about hair loss : " She is likely low thyroid but it is not showing yet on the tests. I wrote somewhere that one lady with a hair problem that didn’t show her low thyroid until 22 years later. When she was 48 her TSH suddenly sky rocketed upwards but it had been normal all the time before that. The commonest cause of low thyroid is inadequate iodine intake. The recommended dose of 150 micrograms is what you get in iodized salt. But now that she is low the salt route will not do it. She needs to supplement – you might as well too—with iodine to get the daily intake up to the Japanese level which is 13 mg per day in the form of seaweed. They have been doing that for centuries. Hence they don’t get breast cancer Multiple sclerosis and many other diseases and they live longer. Have a look at the Japanese and you will see they have plenty of hair! Their prime minister at the present is overflowing with hair. That is because not many people are aware that iodine is in control of hair growth. When we take thyroid hormone for growing hair it often works. But one of the reasons is that it provides iodine from the breakdown of the thyroxine. T4 (thyroxine is four atoms of iodine and T3 is three atoms of iodine. T4 has to be converted to T3 to work and in the process-- low and behold --an iodine molecule is left free. It seems more sensible for hair problems to take iodine and it may fix the thyroid gland up at the same time. But you have to give the gland enough iodine to work on. I hope this all makes sense. You want to buy Lugol’s solution from a pharmacy. 100 ml of Lugol’s will cost about 10 bucks and will last one person five years. Two people 2 1/2 years. Take it in milk orange juice anything you like – some people don’t like the flavor. If one pharmacy says they won’t make if for you or don’t have a ready made bottle of it – then phone another pharmacy. Do not substitute for Lugol’s. It will take months to correct the hair and the other problems to do with low thyroid but usually within six weeks you tend to get an inkling that something good is happening. The hair she has now is likely faulty, and eventually will shed as the new hair comes in. After that it just keeps going. Ask any questions. Best wishes Derry MD PhD (retired)"
Guest guest
That does make sense so perhaps the iodine may be the piece I need. I like thinking that maybe the hair I have is " faulty " and my new hair growth (there is some new growth) will be better and stay in longer... Time will tell... > > There are many pieces to the puzzle of hair loss. Among all those others listed, Saw Palmetto is the main ingredient in many of those expensive hair loss supplements.
