Thanks for the tip. I am dealing with gluten issues now. Each time I take a break from it, it is worse when I eat it again. My family is full of thyroid issues. My kids are 8 & 6 and both take Armour and Iodine already. I am trying to slow their thyroid disease down but it's like a runaway freight train. I suspect gluten is a big part of it.

The wheat/gluten issue

Anyone interested in what wheat, and especially gluten, can do the body should get the book "Dangerous Grains". I'm sure that Amazon still has it.

It's a "mind bender" for almost all of us!

Can you give a brief synopsis on the effects of gluten on the body?

For a much longer version, but quite interesting, on gluten, dairy,

corn, and soy---go to dogtorj.net. This vet is also a holistic

people doctor and he has done some serious research to help himself

regain his health as well as to help all his patients. Very

interesting. After reading it I am tempted to try gluten and dairy

free diet, as I am already corn and soy free due to their propensity

to produce free glutamic acid (msg).

Sharon:

Thanks for the book title - I haven't read it but plan to. Fungus spores and mold are unable to be removed from stored grains. It is a social injustice for food companies to push these fungiside laden products on our children.

Ditto on DogtorJ's site. He has a lot of good info there. I've found

that you can get very good information from veterinarian sites:

there is more testing done on animals than there is on

humans, and actually more info available on some topics.

That's where I found out about iodine, incidentally: it's

used a lot on animals and is very effective and cheap.

If a human gets an abcess, you get full-body antibiotics.

If a sheep gets an abcess, it gets iodine.

I also think it's very important to do your best not to get

your little tykes used to unhealthy food paradigms. Right,

the commercials do their best to make junk look good. But

as parents, you are looked up to by you kids, and what Mom

serves as " special food " will always have a warm place in

your kid's heart, even after that kid is 40. So if the " special

food " is going out to Mc's, then the kid will always think

of that as the best place on earth. But if the special food

is a bowl full of nuts or coconut custard or eggs and bacon

or a fresh watermelon, or even (if you are Inuit or Japanese)

a slice of raw fish, THAT is what the kid will treasure their

entire lives.

Really, it works. I tried to get my kids to eat some McD's fries

on a trip and they said they taste yecchy. They are far

pickier about food than I ever was.

Also you can teach them about medicine. Like about iodine.

Teach them to treat cuts and scrapes with povidone iodine

or whatever you have. Teach them about bacteria and infections

and healing, how to recognize inflammation and what to do

about it. How to protect oneself from MRSA in the local

locker room.

Yeah, the food companies and drug companies have

their commercials. But YOU are the parents, and kids

will respect you more (at least when they are little! :-)
