Guest guest
A friend of mine did a patch test on her arm with a single drop of iodine and almost immediately developed itchy bumps. Anyone know what this indicates? Is this just detox or could it mean an allergy to iodine? Thanks! Lee Ann
Guest guest
I cannot answer your question about the itching, but noticed someone else on another list (SymphonicHealth) just posted a message similar in nature: " Just wanted to let you know, I've been faithfully putting the iodine on the cyst - only 2x a day as we noticed when we did it 3x it was itching badly - so we went back to 2x a day AND as of this morning the cyst is going down!!!! Oh happy joy joy!!!! This is wonderful! " > > A friend of mine did a patch test on her arm with a single drop of > iodine and almost immediately developed itchy bumps. Guest guest
The one thing I do know about iodine (which is what made me research it originally) is that it can " activate " stored IgA in the skin. This is a big issue with people with something called " dermatitis herpetiformis " , because whenever they eat iodine or apply it topically, they get little itchy bumps. I had them for years. I thought they were flea bites. They really itch a lot, tho they are really tiny. The issue here IS usually an allergy, but not to iodine. The IgA gets produced based on something you are eating. IgA is produced in the gut, not on the skin. (IgE is produced in the skin, and that's what leads to hives, which look quite different.) So when you eat something your gut reacts to, you get a lot of IgA produced, and if you ALSO have leaky gut, then the IgA can end up being deposited in your skin. When the iodine activates it, it gets itchy. If you figure out the offending food, the IgA will still remain in your skin, for maybe, years. Iodine is what they use to test for DH ... topical iodine will cause the little bumps, and then they can test the little bumps for IgA. So far as I know, the offending food us usually gluten, and the presence of DH means you likely have celiac. I think milk can also cause it though ... I get the bumps when I drink milk too. Anyway, if your friend can swing it, she should get evaluated for celiac/gluten intolerance. I don't know what this means for getting treated with iodine ... usually they say to avoid iodine TOTALLY til the DH is cleared up, which is what I did, but then I think I got problems from the lack of iodine in my diet.
