Guest guest
Hi Mo hon Well it seems apart from being bad for thyroid sufferers in general the betablocker also messes with other hormones on the HPA axis eh? bad news. Glad you found out about it though. I do wish they would train more hormone specialists, would stop US having to become darn hormone specialists. Its amazing what you learn from other people on these forums. Also very tricky trying to balance everything up without the help of a doc and a handy lab. You are finding things out bit by bit, well done hon and good luck, keep going lotsa luv Dawnx

Guest guest
Prozac does it too as does epam - http://www3.interscience.wiley.com/journal/119441103/abstract > > I took beta blockers for anxiety but only for a couple of weeks, they werent the answer and I found out they block the conversion of T4 to T3 so I dont take them now, also dawn diazapan lowers cortisol! > > > > > > > > > > > Hi Mo hon > > Well it seems apart from being bad for thyroid sufferers in general > the betablocker also messes with other hormones on the HPA axis eh? > bad news. > Glad you found out about it though. > I do wish they would train more hormone specialists, would stop US > having to become darn hormone specialists. Guest guest
Actually SSRI's, prozac being one of those, actually increase ACTH activitey, increasing cortisol output which is why some people have trouble sleeping at the beginning of treatment with these drugs Prozac does it too as does epam - http://www3. interscience. wiley.com/ journal/11944110 3/abstract>> I took beta blockers for anxiety but only for a couple of weeks, they werent the answer and I found out they block the conversion of T4 to T3 so I dont take them now, also dawn diazapan lowers cortisol!> > > > > > > > > > > Hi Mo hon> > Well it seems apart from being bad for thyroid sufferers in general> the betablocker also messes with other hormones on the HPA axis eh?> bad news.> Glad you found out about it though.> I do wish they would train more hormone specialists, would stop US> having to become darn hormone specialists. Guest guest
I think you are referrig to melatonin Mo, I was talking about cortisol. Its funny really as people are given diazapan for sleep! I do know that diazapan lowers cortisol which is why it helps with sleep I guess. SSRI's increase cortisol activity Prozac does it too as does epam - http://www3. interscience. wiley.com/ journal/11944110 3/abstract>> I took beta blockers for anxiety but only for a couple of weeks, they werent the answer and I found out they block the conversion of T4 to T3 so I dont take them now, also dawn diazapan lowers cortisol!> > > > > > > > > > > Hi Mo hon> > Well it seems apart from being bad for thyroid sufferers in general> the betablocker also messes with other hormones on the HPA axis eh?> bad news.> Glad you found out about it though.> I do wish they would train more hormone specialists, would stop US> having to become darn hormone specialists. Guest guest
Yes I was referring to melatonin being lowered by Prozac, same as it gets lowered by epam and betablockekers. And I think they way it may work is that lowering the melatonin this way allows oestrogen to rise which then binds with thyroid hormone making it inaccessible to us.
