Guest guest
Do you have white spots on your nails or any of the other symptoms of pyroluria as I posted recently? It said in that post that alcohol intolerance can be a sign. Mo Hi Folks,I discovered the other night I am intolerant to alcohol at the moment. I had a few sips of a glass of red wine and my arms felt all strange and heavy. I could not finish tha glass and thought great I cannot even enjoy a glass of red; must be sick!Is anybody else who is hypo intolerant to it?Do people think this is beacuse I am adrenally fatigued, or just beacause of thyroid not being treated properly? Another thing I noticed was that a couple of months ago my feet felt puffy after having a drink.AliDo you value your online security? - http://www.tiscali.co.uk/security ________________________________________________
Guest guest
Hi Mo, I don't have white spots on my fingernails and I looked at your posting about pyroluria and I don't think I have any of those symptoms. Maybe just a sign of feeling ill. Guest guest
This used to happen to me, and when I had a drink of alcohol, I used to get a very tight pain across the back of my shoulders, and it just carried on aching. I knew when that happened that if I carried on drinking, I would very rapidly become drunk, even on two glasses of wine. That lasted for several years, but now, I can drink happily, without any of this previous strange intolerance. Many people who are hypothyroid cannot tolerate any form of alcohol, but I think they are OK once they get the correct treatment. As to why.....now, that is another question. luv - Sheila I discovered the other night I am intolerant to alcohol at the moment. Guest guest
I wonder if it is a high amount of sulphites in the wine that cause the problem? I also get a nasty tightening across my shoulders & in my back but only sometimes - some wines are fine.
Guest guest
Hi , I never thought it could be the suplhites, I have always wondered whether these were dodgy. I cannot have most beers as they have wheat in and I have given up wheat do to an intolerance., maybe next time I will try to find wheat free beer instead. Guest guest
Hi Ali I didn't drink often but just before I was diagnosed I discovered that I couldn't tolerate alcohol as I could before. I'd been at a party and had, had quite a few drinks was completely fine when I left and on the way home but the next morning I didn't feel too good and felt quite ill at church. It didn't make sense with how I had been the night before. All I could do was put it down to the underactive thyroid. So I've not had any more, it's not worth it. Guest guest
Might be connected with delayed liver clearance as hypoT makes the liver sluggish? Guest guest
I'm finding this very strange as before I was diagnosed I did not drink well the odd beer every now and again but now I LOVE a beer, usually have one when I get in from work and a few more at the weekends, but only since I started my medication? strange huh? Guest guest
Ali, Red Bridge by Anheuser Busch is gluten free. Wine has natural sulfites, but they add it too, as a preservative. Any dried or frozen potato is packed with it, too. Chuck You wrote: > > > Hi , > > I never thought it could be the suplhites, I have always wondered > whether these were dodgy. Guest guest
I havn't touched alchol yet since starting my meds. I am too concerned it will interfere with their effectiveness. I did notice a couple of months before my diagnosis that I got drunk/merry rather quickly at a social gathering we attended after just two glasses of white wine. It was one of the things that set my alarm bells ringing that something was wrong. kj In thyroid treatment , " alibongo85 " <alibongo85@...> wrote: > > > Is anybody else who is hypo intolerant to it? Guest guest
Me too. I used to enjoy the odd glass of wine but not anymore. Another reason to get better! I understood from Dr P that hypo and adrenal fatigue affects the liver but we will get over it. Another reason to get better! Pen
Guest guest
We will get over it! Guest guest
Hi, sulphites are one of the least likely preservatives to react badly to- can result in increased hangover like symptoms though. Sodium benzoate is far more irritating. I did quite a lot of reading into food additives when i was finding the best way to control my daughter's hyperactivity. An additive diet really did work instead of Ritalin. Re: Intolerance to alcohol Hi ,I never thought it could be the suplhites, I have always wondered whether these were dodgy. Guest guest
Exactly Pen, I do esp. enjoy the odd glass of red maybe with a meal out. I find I am missing beer, altho. looking at wheat free alternatives (remains to be seen if I can tolerate that!) as I gave up wheat a week or so ago. one good thing my belt has gone down one notch maybe due to no wheat and/or no alcohol at the weekends! Take care, Ali pennysometimes@...> wrote: > > Me too. I used to enjoy the odd glass of wine but not anymore. > Another reason to get better! Guest guest
Anyone know the cause of the alcohol intolerance? I went out last night, had quite a bit to drink and then got a very bad uncomfortable pain across my chest/stomach area and my shoulders, and myheart was beating very fast. Iv had it many times before and always goes away after a few minutes if I have a big glass of water. Could this be low aldosterone? I think I read that alcohol lowers aldosterone.. Guest guest
I don't know what caused it Jonny but I have a theory about what caused me to get wierd on alchohol. I started having cravings long before I went on Armour, I was needing to eat of feeling really rotton, hypoglycemia symptoms. When I went on armour and my low cortisol (which helps maintain sugar levels) was exposed I got worse with the low blood sugar symptoms. I took a drink of guinness and was just about ' drunk' on a few mouthfuls. I believe that was down to the blood sugars spiking and I also believe that is why a very nice Gentleman I spoke to about my sugar symptoms believes that alcholics are often suffering from hypoglycemia. So I do in fact believe the adrenals are a lot to do with the strange effect that alchohol has on us, well on me at least. It remains to be seen if I will still have the problem when all my meds are done 'perfectly'. lotsa luv Dawnx
Guest guest
Hi jonny, This seems to affect hypos in different ways. When on T4 I was fairly tolerant, but as soon as I changed to Armour and T3 with adrenal support my metabolism naturally increased, so the alcohol was absorbed quicker- oops! Learn the lesson and drink less alcohol and more slowly- I know, hard for a student, but saves much embarrassment and your liver!
