Hi Mo

If it is of any interested, Dr Hertoghe says that the best

laboratory test for melatonin is measuring its major metabolite 6-s-melatonin

in 24 hour urine (or 8 hour overnight collection, or doing a saliva test at

2-3p.m. (or 2 3 a.m.). I know this has nothing to do with what you are asking,

but thought I would post it anyway in case anybody wondered.

Luv - Sheila

Well I have emailed Genova and asked them to specify

precisely how

high-dose melatonin would effect the results of sex hormones in a

saliva test. They do not say it raises them just that it could effect

them.

I have been sent some research stating that melatonin can block

oestrogen receptors and cause a build up in the blood but have not

seen anything yet to say this could happen with saliva. If melatonin

blocks oestrogen receptors then it would not get past that point to

get into the cells I am thinking and would not therefore raise tissue

levels.

I have asked Genova is high-dose melatonin would also be problematic

in blood testing and will report back when I hear from them.

-Thanks Sheila, I have been thinking about the testing side of things

and I suppose I can assume deficiency as it is working for me in the

BP and rapid pulse department.

My GP is going to be very surprised! #

Isn't

it wonderful when we find something that does what it's supposed to. I hope you

will tell your doctor what did the trick!

Well it did NOT do what it was supposed to do Sheila. It was supposed

to send me to sleep..... and instead it lowered my BP and

pulse........ wonderful side-effect.

Oh yes I am looking forward to seeing my GP's face as he has been

putting me under serious pressure over the last few years to take his

BP meds. I tried a couple of them and always had horrendous side

effects.

And still he had another go at me last time I saw him to try a

combination, a cocktail if you will :)

No thanks I told him, I am barely keeping my head above water as it

is without further problems from these meds. and still he pursued it

and pursued it.

Holy Moses! If only he applied such persistence to getting my thyroid

right.

Mo:

That's what fingers are for! I use my fingers a lot and have A level

maths and a couple of OU courses behind me. Much better than a

calculator - usually got them with me!

Best wishes,

Kat
