Guest guest
LDN Group Special Notice: SPAM CONTROL Recently it has been brought to our attention that the occurrence of spam and other offensive messages on the LDN Group has been on the rise. Although the moderators of this group have tried to review all content on a frequent basis, our practice has been not to pre- screen messages or members. We have appreciated the messages we have received from several group members offering to help in the process of moderating, and suggesting some form of pre-screening. However, at this time we feel that imposing that degree of censorship may be too harsh a solution, given that the problem is not quite that severe. For now, we recommend the following group guidelines to help alleviate the spam problem in the LDN Group: 1) DON'T POST SPAM. Spam has been defined as " Unsolicited e-mail, often of a commercial nature, sent indiscriminately to multiple mailing lists, individuals, or newsgroups; junk e-mail. " It is our policy to ban those who post spam to this group. 2) DON'T POST OFFENSIVE MESSAGES. Here we are referring to messages whose content obviously upsets a substantial number of group members. For example, we have banned those who have repeatedly posted messages that include the entire contents of the previous Daily Digest, those who have repeatedly made unsubstantiated and bizarre claims, and those who have not complied with our requests to modify their offensive posts. 3) DON'T SPREAD SPAM OR OFFENSIVE MESSAGES. This tends to happen when a group member is complaining about an inappropriate message sent by somebody else -- and, in doing so, he or she copies the offensive message and spreads it further. Therefore, please, when referring to an annoying message, avoid copying any of the offensive material into your own message. (If your e-mail software automatically copies the original message when you press " Reply, " you may need to manually scroll down in your reply to delete the offending original message.) Thank you for continuing to make the LDN Group a useful, supportive community. Sincerely, The Moderators
