Henry & frieinds are going to a Ministry (I never heard of thse guys, myself) concert in NYC. We'll watch some videos, read some books, play some music until the Simpsons comes on, then probably doze off while waiting for Henry to get home. Guest guest
> Off sugar for 2 days now---seems like 20 LOL It *does* get easier as time goes on, Pat. Just keep drinking the water to force it all out of your system faster, be prepared for the shakes and headaches as you detox, and don't be surprised if you even get some dizzy spells these first few days. Make plans on how you're going to substitute for those starches by hitting the grocery store for some brown rice (buy the smallest bag of various brands until you find one you like), brown basmati rice (smells like popcorn!), and other whole grains. Barley tastes almost identical to white rice, and kasha (buckwheat groats) has a nice earthy smell and flavor, and tastes even more delicious if you brown it up first in a little bit of egg white diluted in water. Check labels on different brands of bread. Some claim to be whole wheat and look like it, being nice and dark, but when you read closely it may say " 100% Wheat " instead of " whole wheat " and contain something like molasses that makes it dark while using only enriched white flour. Look for 100% stoneground whole wheat or other whole grains. Do you plan on using sugar substitutes? Again, buy only small amounts of different types until you find one you can live with. A lot of people can't tolerate Nutrisweet and all the products that use it as a sweetener, and can use things like Splenda, Sweet n Lo (saccharin), or stevia, instead. If you *really* want to go the " natural " way, you can search for on-line sources of agave syrup, another natural sweetener. Watch out for foods that contain the sugar alcohols, like sorbitol and mannitol, as sweeteners, like the new Hershey candies. Too much of that and you can get stomach cramps and diarrhea. Don't ask me how I know. And keep busy, stay out of the kitchen, stay away from the places where you would normally reach for the sugar-laden foods. Have plenty of healthy alternatives on hand, instead. A nice juicy apple or orange can beat a chocolate bar any old day (Well, at least you have to *convince* yourself it does!). Good luck! You can do it!

Last week we went to the park for an hour and a half and then went to Burger King for another hour or so. I love playgroup because I get to chat with my friends while the kids play. Guest guest
Ah, yes, my lungs feel like they might catch fire or fall out after a good HIIT session. Sometimes I worry that they might jump out of my chest and fly around the room like a deflating balloon. If you're starving at night, make sure you're spacing your meals so that you get enough to eat in the evening with the last meal right before you go to bed. A protein shake is always a good choice if you wake up with your stomach growling and unable to go back to sleep. DAY 2 I am so excited that there are so many people starting this week! Well my calves hurt like hell, but I did the stair mill today. Does anyone feel like their lungs " burn " when they do HIIT? So far so good with the nutrition. The other thing that I am worried about is that when I do not eat many calories during the day say 1500 or so, I tend to wake up in the night crazy hungry with no sense about me. I think I will prepare a protien shake so that I stay away from the almond butter.

Guest guest
Something I've noticed after doing HIIT for a while is that I no longer have to sit on the bike for a while before getting off (for fear of falling over). I no longer feel dizzy or like I have to puke or any of those wonderful things. I still go as hard as my 'lil legs will go, and I still can barely breathe after a level 9, but I just don't feel as crappy afterwards. Is this a good thing or a bad thing? in NZ C1W10D4 > Ah, yes, my lungs feel like they might catch fire or fall out after a good HIIT session. Staying under 2000 cal. seems > to be a shock to my system. Anyone else feel this way when starting off? Ann, I can totally relate to that feeling! I am at 265 now and just started a week ago at 270. I am also experiencing a bit of shakiness, not feeling quite like myself. Not bad, exactly, but just different. I was wondering the same thing about how many calories I must have been eating before. I read somewhere that to maintain my old weight I would have to have something like 3500 calories! It's hard to imagine I was doing that. " I ate my yogurt and sandwich and drank water and decaf tea with > Splenda. Yea Me! I took a box of clementine oranges to share and I ate two of those too. " Good for you! Just keep counting calories and making healthy food choices...Don't you just love Splenda, though? I do!! Tonight I was able to have some Blue Bunny vanilla ice cream made with Splenda and it was wonderful. I also can't deal with this cold weather without some coffee with creamer and Splenda...yum! I have a real sweet tooth, so I think the stuff is great. " It feels kind of good to have my food already in Fit Day " ... " It just seems official and I'm less likely to blow it by eating something else today. " I like to make my whole plan the night before so when I get up I know what I am going to have. It really helps me. I do like to leave a little room in my plan, though, just in case there is something I just can't refuse....never know what kind of goodies will be in the teachers workroom! Although, I am getting better at walking by them without even a second glance! Jer

If Sugar Busters taught you anything, it should have been to eat a protein snack when you feel your sugar is low. Broccoli is a good food, but add some shredded cheese or crushed nuts or a handful of beans to it. Just saw your menu and you *did* have cheese with it. When did you get shaky, before or after this snack? Plan it for about 2 hours after lunch and see if it's better. >I've already had about 1550 calories today so I shouldn't feel so hungry. > > How much fiber did you get? Or protein, complex carbs? Calories is just a number - you need to plan to get the most nutrition and bulk out of the calories you get. 100 calories of saltine crackers doesn't fill you as much as 100 calories of soup or even less crackers but a bit of peanut butter on them. That's why the FoodMover is a handy gadget - it tells you how to spend those calories so you can get more bang for your buck and cover all the nutritional bases. If you're going to calorie-count, that is the way to go. >It's almost more shaky than hungry. Unpleasant feeling. > That's the low blood sugar feeling I get if I don't eat every 2-3 hours. I'm sure if you had a glucometer and tested you blood sugar at awakening to get a fasting reading, then again at intervals throughout the day, you would see that when you feel shaky the number will be either at or even below what your fasting level was. >I've done Sugar Busters type programs in the last few years but I haven't >strictly controlled calories like this in a long time. > Well, you ate SB-approved foods, but did you follow the rest of the plan? According to the book you're allowed 3 meals, snacks if needed, but each meal should only fit on the center of the plate without going up the sides, so the entire meal should fit in a space of about 6 inches or so. The snacks are supposed to be small, not complete meals, and the authors recommended you eat your daily fruit allotment at snack times. Following those rules, the total daily calories for Sugar Busters was between 1200 - 1600. Kids and skinny people were encouraged to eat a bit more, but for weight loss, starches were limited to 3-servings a day. http://www.sugarbusters.com/filessb/foods.html " New and less active Sugar Busters should keep starches(whole grain group) at 3 servings per day. Physically active Sugar Busters could consume 6 foods from the whole grain group daily. Individuals having problems losing weight or those who have plateaued should decrease the number of servings from the starch group. I rarely eat dinner that late but I was waiting to exercise until Vonn was in bed and Lynn and had left for their overnight. They left at 8:15 and I was on the treadmill by 8:30. Or bring that yogurt from lunch up I just ate yogurt for breakfast. It's just not satisfying. It's too small and too quickly eaten. I'll have a grapefruit in a little while. It takes time to peel and eat and seems more satisfying. Maybe the combo will help the hunger. I like eggs for breakfast with whole wheat toast. I'm not worried about a fraction of an ounce here or there butthe other scale makes it way too easy to cheat since I can't see the weight. No virus found in this outgoing message. I almost got the dial one but said I was worth the extra 6 bucks. The dial one at Target is the one with the tiny increments that are impossible to read accurately. I need to return that one.
