> I have to figure out what to do for dinner.

Maybe you should try planning all the dinners for the week at one time so

you're not sitting hre like this, wondering what to make?

> Tonight and I will have some alone time.

Us, too. Henry & frieinds are going to a Ministry (I never heard of thse

guys, myself) concert in NYC. They're leaving at 3 pm and will probably be

gone until 3am, by the time the 2 opening acts play their sets. Why it's on

a Sunday I'll never know.

It's my baby's first rock concert (sniff).

During the week we barely

> talk to each other with the usual rush. I'll try not to fall asleep! :)

Same here, but usually Ed falls asleep that early during the week, takes a 2

hour nap, then is up and raring to go as *I'm* dozing off. At least on

weekends we're on the same schedule, sort of.

> Should be a nice, relaxing healthy day.

I hope everyone has a nice day planned, too. We'll watch some videos, read

some books, play some music until the Simpsons comes on, then probably doze

off while waiting for Henry to get home. It's a gloomy, chilly day here so

no hanging around outside for us. I hope you Texans stay away from the

tornadoes and the rest of you have some warm temps and sunshine today.

> Off sugar for 2 days now---seems like 20

LOL

It *does* get easier as time goes on, Pat. Just keep drinking the water to

force it all out of your system faster, be prepared for the shakes and

headaches as you detox, and don't be surprised if you even get some dizzy

spells these first few days.

Make plans on how you're going to substitute for those starches by hitting

the grocery store for some brown rice (buy the smallest bag of various

brands until you find one you like), brown basmati rice (smells like

popcorn!), and other whole grains. Barley tastes almost identical to white

rice, and kasha (buckwheat groats) has a nice earthy smell and flavor, and

tastes even more delicious if you brown it up first in a little bit of egg

white diluted in water.

Check labels on different brands of bread. Some claim to be whole wheat and

look like it, being nice and dark, but when you read closely it may say

" 100% Wheat " instead of " whole wheat " and contain something like molasses

that makes it dark while using only enriched white flour. Look for 100%

stoneground whole wheat or other whole grains.

Do you plan on using sugar substitutes? Again, buy only small amounts of

different types until you find one you can live with. A lot of people can't

tolerate Nutrisweet and all the products that use it as a sweetener, and can

use things like Splenda, Sweet n Lo (saccharin), or stevia, instead. If you

*really* want to go the " natural " way, you can search for on-line sources of

agave syrup, another natural sweetener.

Watch out for foods that contain the sugar alcohols, like sorbitol and

mannitol, as sweeteners, like the new Hershey candies. Too much of that and

you can get stomach cramps and diarrhea. Don't ask me how I know. :(

And keep busy, stay out of the kitchen, stay away from the places where you

would normally reach for the sugar-laden foods. Have plenty of healthy

alternatives on hand, instead. A nice juicy apple or orange can beat a

chocolate bar any old day (Well, at least you have to *convince* yourself it

does!). :)

Good luck! You can do it!

We go to Burger King or Mcs because they have indoor play areas. By

11:30am we have to seek water or air conditioning around here. Last week we

went to the park for an hour and a half and then went to Burger King for

another hour or so. I love playgroup because I get to chat with my friends

while the kids play. :) We only have one potential fast food location in

the next 5 weeks after today.

Ah, yes, my lungs feel like they might catch fire or fall out after a good HIIT

session. Sometimes I worry that they might jump out of my chest and fly around

the room like a deflating balloon.

If you're starving at night, make sure you're spacing your meals so that you get

enough to eat in the evening with the last meal right before you go to bed. A

protein shake is always a good choice if you wake up with your stomach growling

and unable to go back to sleep.

DAY 2

I am so excited that there are so many people starting this week!

Well my calves hurt like hell, but I did the stair mill today.

Does anyone feel like their lungs " burn " when they do HIIT?

So far so good with the nutrition.

The other thing that I am worried about is that when I do not eat many

calories

during the day say 1500 or so, I tend to wake up in the night crazy hungry

with no

sense about me.

I think I will prepare a protien shake so that I stay away from the almond

I didn't wake up hungry last night, weeeeee I wonder if it has to do with

didn't and did not.?????

Something I've noticed after doing HIIT for a while is that I no

longer have to sit on the bike for a while before getting off (for

fear of falling over). I no longer feel dizzy or like I have to puke

or any of those wonderful things. I still go as hard as my 'lil legs

will go, and I still can barely breathe after a level 9, but I just

don't feel as crappy afterwards.

Is this a good thing or a bad thing?

starting off?

Ann,

I can totally relate to that feeling! I am at 265 now and just

started a week ago at 270. I am also experiencing a bit of

shakiness, not feeling quite like myself. Not bad, exactly, but just

different. I was wondering the same thing about how many calories I

must have been eating before. I read somewhere that to maintain my

old weight I would have to have something like 3500 calories! It's

hard to imagine I was doing that.

" I ate my yogurt and sandwich and drank water and decaf tea with

> Splenda. Yea Me! :) I took a box of clementine oranges to share

and I ate two of those too. "

Good for you! Just keep counting calories and making healthy food

choices...Don't you just love Splenda, though? I do!! Tonight I was

able to have some Blue Bunny vanilla ice cream made with Splenda and

it was wonderful. I also can't deal with this cold weather without

some coffee with creamer and Splenda...yum! I have a real sweet

tooth, so I think the stuff is great.

" It feels kind of good to have my food already in Fit Day " ... " It

just seems official and I'm less likely to blow it by eating

something else today. " I like to make my whole plan the night

before so when I get up I know what I am going to have. It really

helps me. I do like to leave a little room in my plan, though, just

in case there is something I just can't refuse....never know what

kind of goodies will be in the teachers workroom! Although, I am

getting better at walking by them without even a second glance!

Well, I ate 2000 (well 1994 :) today and I could have easily consumed

another 1000 so 3500 wouldn't really surprise me.

Hmmm.... Maybe I'll try that. I like the sugar free popsicles and

fudgesicles but not as much in the winter.

What do you teach? I'm working on alternative certification for high school

physics and chemistry. Ugh. I find it very hard to make myself study for

my content exam though.

Gotta go to sleep. I don't feel great. Hopefully Vonn will sleep until at

least 8 tomorrow so I can get a little extra sleep. :)

I did get in my 20 min. of treadmill plus warm up and cool down and I didn't

eat anything not on my list so it was a successful day.

Broccoli ain't gonna do it! If Sugar Busters taught you anything, it

should have been to eat a protein snack when you feel your sugar is low.

Broccoli is a good food, but add some shredded cheese or crushed nuts or

a handful of beans to it.

Just saw your menu and you *did* have cheese with it. When did you get

shaky, before or after this snack? Plan it for about 2 hours after lunch

and see if it's better.

>I've already had about 1550 calories today so I shouldn't feel so hungry.

>

>

How much fiber did you get? Or protein, complex carbs? Calories is just

a number - you need to plan to get the most nutrition and bulk out of

the calories you get. 100 calories of saltine crackers doesn't fill you

as much as 100 calories of soup or even less crackers but a bit of

peanut butter on them. That's why the FoodMover is a handy gadget - it

tells you how to spend those calories so you can get more bang for your

buck and cover all the nutritional bases. If you're going to

calorie-count, that is the way to go.

>It's almost more shaky than hungry. Unpleasant feeling.

>

That's the low blood sugar feeling I get if I don't eat every 2-3 hours.

I'm sure if you had a glucometer and tested you blood sugar at awakening

to get a fasting reading, then again at intervals throughout the day,

you would see that when you feel shaky the number will be either at or

even below what your fasting level was.

>I've done Sugar Busters type programs in the last few years but I haven't

>strictly controlled calories like this in a long time.

Well, you ate SB-approved foods, but did you follow the rest of the

plan? According to the book you're allowed 3 meals, snacks if needed,

but each meal should only fit on the center of the plate without going

up the sides, so the entire meal should fit in a space of about 6 inches

or so. The snacks are supposed to be small, not complete meals, and the

authors recommended you eat your daily fruit allotment at snack times.

Following those rules, the total daily calories for Sugar Busters was

between 1200 - 1600. Kids and skinny people were encouraged to eat a bit

more, but for weight loss, starches were limited to 3-servings a day.

http://www.sugarbusters.com/filessb/foods.html

" New and less active Sugar Busters should keep starches(whole grain

group) at 3 servings per day. Physically active Sugar Busters could

consume 6 foods from the whole grain group daily. Individuals having

problems losing weight or those who have plateaued should decrease the

number of servings from the starch group. "

Do you eat any fruits or veggies? Seems like lots of dairy and processed

I watched What Not to Wear while on the treadmill. I like that show. I

need to spiff up my wardroabe if I'm going back to work. I ended up

watching 2 episodes of that and then watched Clean Sweep. I was very tired

by 11pm so I was in bed by..... hmmm.... I thought it was 11:15 but I

I ate grapefruit and toast at 8:30am, sandwich and yogurt just before noon.

Had apple at 4pm. Broccoli with cheese at 5pm. 2 Lean Pockets with more

broccoli and cheese at 9:30pm. I rarely eat dinner that late but I was

waiting to exercise until Vonn was in bed and Lynn and had left for

their overnight. They left at 8:15 and I was on the treadmill by 8:30. I

was gone from 9:30am until 4pm and then I went out looking for a new scale

from 6-7:30pm. Kind of a weird day.

> How much fiber did you get? Or protein, complex carbs?

41 grams of fiber, 107 grams protein, plenty of complex carbs. I'm glad I

wrote down the times for you so I see that I can't go from noon to 4pm

without eating something. Maybe I'll try a string cheese at 2pm to see if

that helps and maybe an apple.

> Well, you ate SB-approved foods, but did you follow the rest of the

> plan? According to the book you're allowed 3 meals, snacks if needed,

Yeah, you know how I feel about you taking one sentence out of the book and

propping the whole program on it. They really need to revise the book to

make it more cohesive.

> All carbs. You might want to add a protein here, like a low-fat sausage

> or egg. Or bring that yogurt from lunch up

I just ate yogurt for breakfast. It's just not satisfying. It's too small

and too quickly eaten. I'll have a grapefruit in a little while. It takes

time to peel and eat and seems more satisfying. Maybe the combo will help

the hunger. I like eggs for breakfast with whole wheat toast. Hmmm.....

let me check the calories..... looks like 2 eggs are 150 calories. I

usually cook 3 or 4 of them with some butter....... oops. Can't do that an

y more. :)

> One ounce of cheese is not much at all, especially when you consider one

> wrapped slice is one ounce.

I went to Target last night and got the digital scale that someone

recommended a while back. It measures to 1/8 of an ounce so I was able to

accurately measure my ounce of cheese. I'll return the one with the tiny

increments. I'm not worried about a fraction of an ounce here or there but

the other scale makes it way too easy to cheat since I can't see the weight.

> Can you sleep, exercising right before bed? I never could, but some can.

Exercised at 8:30 and crashed before midnight. I was really tired.

and Lynn are home from their overnight at the gym. The kids are

watching TV and 's snoozing. I can't walk on the treadmill since it's

in the bedroom but I'll definately fit that in later today. It's only 40

this morning Brrrrrr..... :) so we'll hang around inside for a while.

It's supposed to get up to 60 so we can probably get out and work on the

bikes this afternoon. It would be nice to go for a ride now that the

terrible hemorrhoids have passed. Evil little ba$tards. :)

The sad part is, they did revise the book and still left that part out

(About only 3 servings for weight loss). The part about what fits on

the plate *is* part of the basic plan since the beginning - that's

where the calorie restriction and weight loss comes from.

I'll have a grapefruit in a little while. It takes

time to peel and eat and seems more satisfying.

At least the grapefruit has fiber in it, the yogurt doesn't, but has

protein, which is more slowly digested so it should hold you longer.

I wonder what your daily calories were before dropping down to 2000?

This is probably why you're getting the shakes - even at 2000 cal your

body thinks it's starving!

Exercised at 8:30 and crashed before midnight. I was really tired.

I was asleep before you got off the treadmill.

It's only 40 this morning Brrrrrr..... :)

25 when I got up at 5:30 (I slept late today LOL) and at 10:30am it's

all the way up to 27!

so we'll hang around inside for a while.

My boys are out getting haircuts - some father and son time. When they

get back, then Ed & I will head out for our usual Saturday rounds.

I might even be able to get my pressure cooker this weekend. Once I do,

I won;t have any excuse for not making those beany veggie meals.

terrible hemorrhoids have passed. Evil little ba$tards. :)

A few weeks on a veggie diet will ease that problem. ;-)

Dunno. I can pretty much eat what I want and maintain 270. It would have

been interesting to track calories for a week before I started controlling

I've never used a pressure cooker. My mom always has. I use a crock pot

which seems to achieve the same results although over a much longer period

of time. :)

I picked up the digital scale today, sounds like the same one you got. I almost got the dial one but said I was worth the extra 6 bucks. I saw a kewl looking scale for the bathroom that'll have to wait - weight, bmi and something else that I can't remember - close to $40.

----- Original Message ----- From: "Sue in NJ" <susang@...>I went to Target last night and got the digital scale that someonerecommended a while back. It measures to 1/8 of an ounce so I was able toaccurately measure my ounce of cheese. I'll return the one with the tinyincrements. I'm not worried about a fraction of an ounce here or there butthe other scale makes it way too easy to cheat since I can't see the weight.

The dial one at Target is the one with the tiny increments that are

impossible to read accurately. I need to return that one.
