Guest guest
Yuck! That teacher needs a swift kick in the pants!! Day 2 Argh! Yesterday, we had the team meeting at Micah’s school. I guess it could have gone worse. I guess they could have denied all of the concerns that they have previously stated or that they could have continued to withhold written documentation (which they did try, but failed). They still tried to pressure us into signing a release for them to exchange information directly with the doctors, saying that they felt freer to tell the doctors of their concerns than parents and that it makes it easier for the doctors and the educators to come up with a treatment plan when it isn’t complicated by the concerns or communications of the parents. Micah’s teacher went so far as to say that she had regular email correspondence with different pediatricians (including ours) where they shared information and concerns back and forth without involving the parents in the discussions. I don’t know about the rest of you, but I feel very strongly on this issue. How can we be expected to help our children if the educators (and possibly doctors) want to take us out of the loops of communication and decision making? In my opinion, any information shared with a doctor should also be able to be shared with the parents unless it is a possible neglect/abuse issue, in which case they should be reporting it to the authorities!!! We are capable of assimilating information received from a wide variety of sources and making our own decisions on what is in our children’s best interests. I don’t need a teacher, who is only in my child’s life for 9 months at most, taking on that responsibility for me. Anyway, Micah’s teacher was going to once again withhold written documentation. She said that she couldn’t give us that information without a written consent form that allows her freedom to give and receive information directly with the doctor. When I told her that she could give us the information and we could determine who would see it, she said that knowing our purpose, she couldn’t give it to us. When I told her we had a right to that information, she actually looked at the special education director and asked her if she should hand over the documentation. When the sped teacher said that we could have a copy of the information, she reluctantly handed it over, while telling me that if we end up wanting any special services, they will not be approved without that authorization. It really burns me up that they would withhold written information this way, that they would try to keep everything verbal in order to avoid having to turn over information that would be helpful in identifying and treating potential problems that the child is experiencing! I know that we have a legal right to all written information on our children. Yet emails are apparently protected correspondence, even when they deal with our children and their health/educational concerns. The teacher tried to pacify us with ending it by telling us how glad she is that we have such open communication and that she feels that with this meeting, we now are all on the same page… I really don’t feel that way, but didn’t want to damage the relationship. If need be, if problems persist, I will consider legal council. Perhaps they can write a letter explaining our legal rights as parents and that by trying to force the issue, they are violating the Federal Privacy Act and by threatening to limit services because of it, they are violating IDEA. I guess I feel like it is a bomb waiting to go off… I will not be forced on this issue, and if they want to create a war, I will fight for my child’s rights!!! ~muttering about no one (especially the school) other than her doctors for medical reasons has the right to pre-adoption information on my child or to hold information that can cause her permanent emotional/social scaring if revealed prior to her being of age to handle such information~ ~hugs~ Rabecca
Guest guest
Cherilyn... Sounds like you had a good day!!! > Tomorrow is grocery day, I am trying to find something hot and filling for > lunches. I got into the habit of making a big batch of brown rice, freezing it in singel serving size and reheating it for lunch and then making a veggie stirfry. Some sort of meat helps make it a bit more lasting, but it was very low cal and warm and tasted great! I am so sick of toasted sandwiches, but I don't like salads much > at all. Any ideas? The other thing that I liked was a vegetable soup from one of s cookbooks. I know it is in the file, but can't remember the exact name.. something like a spicey vegetable gumbo. It was also very low cal and you could have something else to go with it. I also cooked this in big batches and froze it in single serving sizes. Guest guest
If you are only eating what you are putting down, you are WELL under 2000! The lean breakfast thingy is either 140 or 150 depending on if it is sausage or bacon. and the rest of your day is very low as well...Ü I am TRYING to do 350 for breakfast lunch and dinner and then 3 100 calorie snacks. My friend goes to a trainer and they say you really need to eat every 2 hours to kick up your metabolism. I find that when I eat my breakfast within an hour after getting up, it really helps my day...hard to do, but helps. I really need to keep a log...not good at that....Ü 12000 steps is anywhere from 4 to 7 miles or so depending on your stride...so that is good.Ü Have a blessed day! Kathey day 2 breakfast - 1 breakfast lean pocket lunch - grilled chicken salad, 2 crackers supper - grilled chicken, 1/2 cup roasted potatoes, 1/2 cup green beans no formal exercise but walked over 12,000 steps at work. I want to start counting calories to see where I'm at. I feel like I am around 2000, but who knows I might be surprised to learn its a lot higher. I think that will be my goal for next week. I did figure out Wed. food on an old WW pointsfinder that I have and I was within my points range that day. Jill

Guest guest
Oh, wow, Connie, my soups are really simple. I just use some of the organic beef broth or chicken broth that you buy in the cartons. I never use bouillion anymore because most of it has MSG. I may heat it and toss in some mushrooms, onions, and garlic that I've sauteed in a mix of 1 part olive oil, 1 part butter (small amount). After the ingredients are heated, I stir in some miso and voila! I have soup. Sometimes I just add miso to a homemade vegetable soup my Dad makes. It's just a variety of veggies in a tomato juice base. It's very good as well. Muscle Milk is a protein drink mix by Cytosport. We get the Natural Vanilla and Natural Chocolate flavors because they're sweetened with stevia and luo han rather than artificial sweeteners like the other Muscle Milk flavors. It's very good and dh and I find we have a lot more energy when we drink them in the morning for our breakfast. I'm sort of hooked on them now. We make ours with skim milk, although some folks use water. I add a frozen banana to Neil's but the nutritionist told me to use some silken tofu in mine. Sometimes we'll have a bit of granola with our Muscle Milk. Here's my recipe for it - - we modified it from a version given to us by our nutritionist. Heat until warm on stove top: 1/2 cup extra light olive oil, 1/2 cup agave nectar (you can use honey, but agave nectar has a much, much lower glycemic index) and cinnamon sprinkled liberally. We've also used 1/2 cup extra light olive oil, 1/4 agave nectar, and 1 scoop of Jay Robb's Vanilla Whey Protein. Add in 4 cups of old fashioned rolled oats, as many nuts as you'd like (whatever kinds you would like), and as much as you'd like of dried fruits. We use the *Just Tomatos* brand of Just Blueberries. They're dried, but have nothing else added, so they're not leathery. Lately, we've also added in Tibetan Gogi berries (supposed to be off the charts high in antioxidants). Stir ingredients together, spread on a couple of baking sheets (we spray ours with olive oil spray) and bake in 300 degree oven for 15 minutes. Take pans out and stir, and continue baking until desired brownness is reached. This granola is very good if you have a craving for something sweet. The kids just love it. Hope this gives everyone some ideas for healthful foods. Melinda ) Re: Day 2 Wonderful Melinda! Can you share a soup or 2 recipe? I am trying to eat healthy too, what kind of milk? Guest guest
Well, the shake didn't stay with me as well as I had hoped. I was plenty ready for my snack at 10. So I ate a boiled egg and some applesauce. When I go to town, I'm going to stock up on spinach, green beans etc. I have heard that Stokelys and Green Giant don't have any pesticides in them. I'm not sure how I can prove that for certain. I don't like frozen green beans but the spinach is ok. Also Broccoli. I'm also going to look for some wheat free spaghetti noodles at the hfs and make some spaghetti. A good winter food. I'd like to make up some O freindly chili too. Anyone have a great recipe? I thought I would make up extra and freeze some portions to save on cooking. Let me know all your good ideas!!! -- www.bigpondaussies.com
