Guest guest
Get the prescription and don't take it. That gives you a breathing space to find an endo to take over your care. And you should not start on a dose of 100mcg. you neesd to start on 25mcg and build up over a few weeks. If your GP is saying that you should take that dose straight off, get on to your PCT and explain how you feel, pointing out that the doctor has asked you to do something that is medically unsafe to do. Guest guest
I agree - this is the time to say " Yes Dear' take the script, (dont have to get it filled) - keep the disability and keep seeing Dr P. There is more than one way to skin a cat and some cats are rats anyway and not worth trying to educate. > jennyfreeman*not medially trained > He slammed the phone down on me!! > > Can anyone help!! > > Thanks in advance. > South > > > re-posted >
Guest guest
Hi , Are you well yet?? Arer you at the point where you feel sure T3 is better for you? I ask as I am just thinkning along the lines of saying to the doctor - " look I understand your concerns, I know the course of action I am taking is not the standard one, but I feel much better than I ever have (or whatever). When I took T4 I had these symptoms, xxxx, which have now gone away using T3. I am unable to take both as mixing the two appears to give me these symptoms, xxxx.I am reluctant to go back to T4 as I felt that my symptoms were too awful to tolerate and it would affect my quality of life. Saying that, I know that at as a good and conscientious doctor you want the best for me, so is there a way of reassuring us (that's important - don't say you, it makes it sound like you don't share his concerns - which you probably don't but it's more productive for him to think you do!) that my cardiac function is OK - perhaps an ECG? etc...etc...perhaps this might be best in a letter?? So at least you are acknowledging his beliefs and concerns, making him feel he is doing his job properly, but still at least trying to get what you want... Guest guest
endo in the middlesbrough area If you find one will ya let me know? I am not far from there. Take the script, I agree with the others, I have a script for 25 mg thyroxine which I intend to top up with when I get on decent armour dose. You are obvously happy on your T3? But you may as well take the scripts, there may be a time when you need to top up and do combo therapy at some point. Hope you find a decent endo, if ya do, let me know, we have none down this end that I know of. Lotsa luv Dawnx (Whitby)
Guest guest
Hi /Leah, ....and the counter-argument is that 'just L-T4' has put people in hospital with serious cardiac arrhythmia (12 hourly for about a week, requiring cardioversion on each occasion to suppress torsades de pointes) from thyrotoxicosis, and which comes on suddenly with compromised adrenal glands. best wishes Bob > > Hi , > Are you well yet?? Guest guest
- no doctor likes to be told anything medical from a non-medical individual, especially when that person is his patient. He obviously isn't happy that somebody knows more than he does and naturally gets cross and embarrassed when he realises he has been copped as not knowing very much about thyroid disease. However, having said that, if your T4 is so very low, then you may need to take a little with your T3. T4 is needed by your brain along with T3 to make it function properly and so do other organs and perhaps you should give yourself a trial of combination therapy. Both your Free T4 and Free T3 should be in the upper third of the reference range. Ask your GP to refer you to an endocrinologist of your choice as you need the specialist input for your particular case (I am sending you a list of good doctors) and you can now 'Choose and Book' the specialist of your choice since April 2008. Luv - Sheila Help, Dr gave me ultimation!!! .. .. Hi, I hope someone can help me! I spoke to my Dr today and he is saying I need to take thyroxine, because my T4 is rock bottom (I'm on T3 only with Dr P). Also I,m in danger of a cardiac arrest if I don't take it. I tried to explain that I take T3 and I don't convert T4, but he was having none of it, and threatened to stop treating my thyroid if I don't start taking 100mgs of thyroxine imediately. _,___

I came off Armour as I don't seem to tolerate the T4 that well, but, I may have to try and get back on it! However, he wants me on thyroxine no messing, so I'm really stuffed!! Thanks for the info that you sent, but it came out blank!! and I'm not that good with computers so I don't know what has happened. Best wishes . Guest guest
> > I agree, you shouldnt start off taking 100mcg, thats really bad advice, I was started off on 50mcg, but elderly people and those with heart problems are started off even lower Hi All, I've decided not to take the useless stuff, and make another appointment to see Dr P, for a bit of morale support!! I picked up the script today, and it says to take 100mgs in the morning!! Silly man!! Never mind, I'm feeling more determined by the day,and if he wants to strike me off his books he can! He is also young enough to be around when the medical establishment eventually realise what idiots they have been, regarding thyroid issues, and he might say to himself, " she wasn't such a silly woman after all " (I wish). Best wishes South.
