Guest guest
For a fella Jonny - yes 62 is a low reading. For women the reference range is 20 to 200 and for men it is 30 to 300. You should be around 130 to 150. You need some elemental iron. If you doctor won't prescribe anything, you can get either Ferrous Sulphate of Ferrous Fumerate at your local health food shop but remember to take high dose Vitamin C at the same time o(2/3000mgs) Luv - Sheila From: thyroid treatment [mailto:thyroid treatment ] On Behalf Of jrshannie Sent: 02 December 2008 15:12 To: thyroid treatment Subject: Is 62 for ferritin low? Hi people, I kinda said everything i need in the subject box.. Is 62 low for ferritin? Is it low enough to cause any symptoms? Last time I had it tested was in June, and it was (you guessed it) 62. Thanks Jonny
Guest guest
Hi , My iron was lower than yours, but still within the refernce range. I have been feeling better since taking iron (ferrous fumarate from my GP), though it does make my bowels a bit troublsome (the dreaded constipation along with very dark stools). I also have difficulty taking it away from my T3, which I think is important, but not sure. Does anyone know the answer to that? I think I need to take it two hours apart from T3... Guest guest
Jane - aree you taking at least 2000/3000mgs Vitamin C with your iron supplementation? You can take your iron supplement when you go to bed - unless that is the time you take your thyroid hormone replacement, and if it is, then take your iron when you wake. luv - Sheila Hi , My iron was lower than yours, but still within the refernce range. Guest guest
Hi I dont think my doc would give me any iron supplements, where would I buy ferrous fumarate from without a prescription? I wonder if it would help with my funny heads? How much does everyone safely take? Hi ,My iron was lower than yours, but still within the refernce range. Guest guest
Any one know what dose to take and for how long to get my bloods to 130 or so? Do you take iron for a while and high dose and then take a maintainence dose? I just started Cortef as I though my symptoms were more due to my adrenals..is it possible that they could be entirely down to low iron? I remember when I was on 3 1/2 grain Armour, I still didnt feel that good. Jonny
Guest guest
Isnt the recommendation to raise ferritin to 70 to 90? Why not above 90 to something more midrange like 130? Jonny

Guest guest
You can get Ferrous Sulphate or Ferrous Fumerate from your local health food store. The normal dose to raise your ferritin level is 200 mgs daily, but take high dose Vitamin C (2000/3000mgs) daily to deal with any possible constipation problems, and take your iron four hours apart from your thyroid hormone replacement. Get your ferritin tested again in about 3 months to see where it is then. Many people with low adrenal reserve, low thyroid have low ferritin and all should be treated. Guest guest
Yes. If you click More information, in the panel brought up you should just about be able to read in the label display ferrous fumarate.
