Guest guest
I took my adrenal results to show my doc and he had no idea how to interpret them, he couldnt help me, he referred me but as yet no apppointment to see an endo has arrived, when it does not sure what to say when I go, do I say what I have been doing by treating myself? I just dont know From: sheilaturner <sheilaturner@...>Subject: Re: Genova Diagnostics Adrenal Resultsthyroid treatment Date: Friday, 29 August, 2008, 8:48 PM Well Jane - Can you see Dr P if your GP refuses to give you a test on the NHS. Problem with that, they only test to see if you have Cushing's or 's and they won't recognise the different shades of grey inbetween. Luv - Sheila I have posted my test results - minus my personal information - on the Files page as Genova Diagnostics Adrenal Results.pdf It looks bad. You were right Sheila. The stage is 'Exhaustion' , and according to this site (http://www.chronicf atigue.org/ ASI%205.html) I think I am in stage five. Its hard to tell because they have used different units for DHEAPlease take a look and comment if you would like to, or even if you are just curious to see what you get for seventy quid. I think it is worth the money.I am not sure what my next move should be...Jane No virus found in this incoming message.Checked by AVG - http://www.avg. com Version: 8.0.169 / Virus Database: 270.6.13/1641 - Release Date: 29/08/2008 07:07Send instant messages to your online friends http://uk.messenger. Guest guest
Yes, I think I need to see Dr P, asap. I have found the clinic details so I will ring on Monday. I also think I should order some HC, but I'm not sure where I can order it from. Where did you get yours ? I'm pretty sure my GP won't prescribe HC as we have discussed it before and he is under the impression that it is an 'experimental' treatment. In fact he won't prescribe anything 'unusual' unless a consultant prescribes it first. For now I am going to stop my thyroxine, but continue with my NAE. Can I take more than three NAE a day? My GP has referred me to another endo, this time they want me to come for blood tests first, on 10 September. The appointments clerk asked me to fast for 12 hours but told her I won't be doing that. I don't need to fast do I? I think it is the same clinic for thyroid and diabetes, and diabetes tests require fasting. I think they were mixed up. Feeling a bit depressed about the whole thing today Jane
Guest guest
Jane, they may want to do a fasting cholesterol test - often hypoT sufferers have high cholesterol. A 12-hour fast isn't so bad if you have a morning appointment - just have your evening meal earlier. -Jo > > My GP has referred me to another endo, this time they want me to come > for blood tests first, on 10 September. Guest guest
Hi Jane Yes, you can take up to 6 NAE daily - but never take any after 1.00p.m. You can add another tablet with your breakfast dose, and then after a couple of weeks, if no adverse effects, you can add another tablet and see how you go on from there. Why won't you be fasting before your blood tests are taken Jane. You should make an early morning appointment and have no drinks or food, and as soon as your blood has been drawn, you can take food and drink immediately. They probably want to test your cholesterol (many people with hypothyroidism have raised cholesterol) and they need you to fast to do this test. Keep your chin up, you are hopefully, starting on the road to recovery. There IS light at the end of the tunnel - I know - I found it and am very well. Luv - Sheila I don't need to fast do I? Guest guest
Hi Jane I got my HC from International Pharmacys in the US, it worked out to be about £25 for 50 5mg tablets, I would be happy to hear of anywhere I could buy it cheaper, it took 10 days to arrive and I stayed off my thyroxine for 9/10 days before I started it and am still not back on it yet until I have been on the HC for 2 weeks, I am on day 10 today, then I am going back on the thyroxine at 50mcg, I was previously taking 150mcg but shouldnt need that much now I am on HC, good luck it should help you but may take a few weeks.--- On Sat, 30/8/08, janemccormicksmith <cordeliajane@...> Yes, I think I need to see Dr P, asap. Guest guest
If you buy the 10mg tablets & cut them up (they easily cut into quarters) they work out at half the price per mg, as they have 100 in the bottle instead of 50. Val I got my HC from International Pharmacys in the US, it worked out to be about £25 for 50 5mg tablets, I would be happy to hear of anywhere I could buy it cheaper
Guest guest
Hi Val, OTC Celltech Corlan Pellets (Hydrocortisone 2.5mg) from about £3-4 for 20. Most chemists should have them (for aphthous ulcers). Any other pricing regime is likely in the rip-off department. It's 'what the market will stand' and they do it worse in this country for lack of adequate competition. best wishes Bob > > If you buy the 10mg tablets & cut them up (they easily cut into quarters) they work out at half the price per mg, as they have
Guest guest
and the generic from Westward at International Pharmacy are even cheaper, they come in 20 mg tabs and i have no problem breaking them up to give me 10, 7.5, 5 and 2.5 mg portions. Guest guest
Wow so I can buy HC 2.5mg in the form of Corlan Pellets without a prescription? I have read Dr P's book and I see that he recommends 2.5mg as a starting dose. That only leaves me with one question which is how long do I need to stay off my thyroxine before I can start taking them? And do I need to stop my NAE beforehand as well? Thanks to everyone for your help. Jane > OTC Celltech Corlan Pellets (Hydrocortisone 2.5mg) from about £3-4 for > 20. Guest guest
Hi Jane I stayed off the thyroxine for 9 days before starting the HC but I dont know if there is a set time to stay off before. I wanted to use up any excess T4 so that I didnt suddenly start converting abrubtly when I started the HC, I do feel though that I had become somewhat toxic on my T4 as I had had increase after increase and never felt totally better but then I wasnt producing enough cortisone to help with the conversion and absorption of T4. I would take the corlan pellets as a permanant source of HC but it can be a good stop gap while you wait for your HC to arrive, it is infact used to treat mouth ulcers. It is adviced to just take HC for 2 weeks gradually increasing every 3 days until you re introduce the T4. I started on 2.5 and am now on 10mg--- On Sat, 30/8/08, janemccormicksmith <cordeliajane@...>Thanks to everyone for your help.
