This indicates a conditon called iron overload (hemachromatosis) . This can be from advanced liver disease or genetic and the treatment is real simple . Treatment consists of having 500cc of blood drawn out once a week until you are anemic .

Serum Ferritin

Hi everyone, does anyone know what it means when your Serum Ferritin in high. My is 1788 and my Iron is 161?

Hi Sue, that's OK, you want it to be around 90, think that's the

optimum level from what I can gather. Can't help with you hair loss,

sorry X

Hi Miriam - your ferritin level is absolutely fine and

you don't need any additional iron.

Luv - Sheila

I have read here that a good ferritin level

might be 70-90 with a

reference range of 20-200. The last time I had mine tested it was

with a different reference range, so please would you comment on it,

if possible?

Result: 113.5

Male reference range 30-400 ng/mL

Female reference range 13-150 ng/ml

Thanks,

Miriam
